Agree 100% about Moser. That said, there's your single. If you can hit on those with consistency elsewhere, maybe you can shoot for the moon early? At LD alone Moser, Szuber, Duda, and Kolyachonok all seem like they have a good shot at being really solid bottom 4 D. With potential on some to be even better. If Moser is an indicator of what they can find later in the draft, it makes all these swings a bit more palatable.Agreed. Although I'd like a bit more of a mix between home run swing and a nice hit for a single RBI.
Swing with Geekie and then grab Chesley for instance.
Grab Leonard or Dvorsky and swing with But (grant it I understand that having him and Simachev helps the likelihood of getting them over).
I think the sheer amount of homerun swings has perturbed me a bit. It's kind of the opposite of Chayka, where he made reaches for what seemed like very underwhelming and safe players that checked off his fancy metrics. BA seems to reach for very high ceilings that check off his metrics of character and size.
All that said, I've been impressed with the risks he has taken and don't need to spend nearly as much time justifying them as I did the Chayka reaches lol. For instance I'm much happier with But than Wood. I'm also happy with Simashev over Reinbacher (check out my thesis of a post from last night).
But yeah my preferred method would be one big swing flowed by a nice safe pick because we have so much draft darts
I don't think we talk about Moser enough around here. It was brilliant to take an overager whose stock rose so much after only having one draft pick in 2020. Let alone an overager who excelled so much. It's outlandish he stepped in right away and solidified himself in a top four spit an never looked back.
Also his mom is a delight and his grandfather is so damn proud of him (met both at the NJD game back in Feb).
7 more picks in the 1st 3 rounds like we had this year. That’s before the deadline sell off… BA may not be chasing top 5 picks anymore but he’s not finished building yet! Plenty of time left to see how everything shakes out.And then when they get tired...
Bantle - Castagna - Matikka
Morden - Kesselring
If we're only icing big dudes then the quality drops off quickly.
I'm guessing in the 30s. Got to believe!I don’t think we pick above 8 next year. Our puck possession last season was abysmal. With Guenther , Kerfoot, Zucker and maybe Dumba our puck possession time will be a lot better, impacting both gfa and gaa. I’m guessing that we pick in the 10-13 range
(the thing is, as time goes by you'll start doing that sort of thing in beer league, and people will notice you. not at that level, obviously, but that doesn't matter. more will than skill.)Nothing melts my heart like that level of puck hounding.

It does not look like it rt, but he should play a big role with the Wolves this year. You like big and skilled? Cayden Lindstrom is one to watch, playing at the upcoming Hlinka too.

You mean the lumbering, plodding, useless Moss was the one being victimized and stripped of the puck for goals against by talented, high motor players right? Is this what Tippett thought of, when he continually played David Moss…
Still holding out hope for a good season and a lottery win. Would be sweet to get one at the tail end of the rebuild.
100% - it would feel so “right” to finally win when we aren’t trying. Kind of like a “reward” for not tanking?…

Washington and Vancouver are the only teams that make me pause.Teams that could/should be worse than us…
1. Chicago
2. San Jose
3. Philadelphia
4. Washington
5. Vancouver
6. Anaheim(?????)
Maybe everything falls sort in an unexpected way for Calgary or Winnipeg or Nashville but I doubt it.
I feel like we’re heading into the lottery with the 6th-9th best odds.

Washington could be interesting depending on what Kuznetsov nets them in a trade. Kuemper will probably bounce back and a full year of Carlson will help them immensely.
I don't see Demko being as bad as he was last year. That alone should provide some added points compared to last year for the Canucks.
At least there was lots of… try.You mean the lumbering, plodding, useless Moss was the one being victimized and stripped of the puck for goals against by talented, high motor players right?

Reminds me of my comments way back when about how Yotes needed at least one of Strome or Dvorak to hit as a 1C for the rebuild to have a chance at success. Of course neither did and they pulled the plug on the rebuild way before knowing that and well here we are...rebuilding again.I agree...Simashev and But better become very good players...otherwise our resurgence isn't going to be as good as we need it to be. Simashev has to become a top pair guy and But has to be 50pt or better 2-way power forward.
We have no choice but to trust this group for now…Reminds me of my comments way back when about how Yotes needed at least one of Strome or Dvorak to hit as a 1C for the rebuild to have a chance at success. Oh yeah of course, there's a lot of reasons to be hopeful this turn around is going to work. My comment about Strome and Dvorak is more a reminder that no one, not even Cooley, is proven yet much less Geekie, Simashev, But, etc. It's still entirely possible the last 3 drafts have not landed the Yotes a single first line player or top 2 D player. Reeeeeealy hoping that's not the case and I'm optimistic that's not the case but it is entirely possible. We just won't know until those players are actually in the NHL and that's a ways off still. Basically you don't have a pipeline until there's actual talent showing up in the NHL, Macelli and Moser a good start but I know I'll feel better when Guenther or Cooley make the team and live up to their draft position. We have no choice but to trust this group for now…
Bill Armstrong - Chief of scouting for STL 2010-2020 (Stanley Cup 2019)
Darryl Plandowski - Chief of scouting for TBL 2008-2020 (Stanley Cups 2020 & 2021)
Alan Hepple - Chief of scouting for COL 2009-2021 (Stanley Cup 2022)
Not to mention John Ferguson Jr who once ran a draft for Toronto where every single pick he made that year played in the NHL.
Plus Larry Pleau. And Teil Fowler who got us Moser and Vejmelka.
And also we assembled a development staff that’s equally well-regarded. And also seen as unprecedented in the history of this sad sack franchise.
They’re actually doing the scouting and development staff right for once. For the first time. And it coincides with having the most draft picks of any team ever.
It’s a good plan. No telling if it will work. It might fail. But it’s a good plan. No choice but to hope for the best.
