I know they did more character search on him than they do to the average NHL player/prospect. Maybe the Athletic always do these character check for all players but I seriously doubt it and publish only article on the serious cases.
There's documented evidence vs what he really did. If you're going to raise the point against Maillouxs documented evidence vs what he did that we don't know, it's only fair that you assume the same for everyone.

It is still IMO kind of a public trial in his case without knowing all the facts. We are all judging him based on it. I would personally love to see the opportunity for him to defend himself or have his opinion on it.

One thing is for sure - Katie Strang doesn't miss. I'd expect all of these things are highly vetted and that the article was done and published because of valid noise.

Like I said before, people have different opinions on this subject and I'm not going to really spend energy on it. But to think that the Habs would select him? It's not going to happen.

The Mailloux selection was a part of why Bergevin got fired and sponsors threatened to pull out. I doubt the Canadiens are gonna pick the kid with a highly publicized swastika incident a few years removed from that.

I know the Habs are not taking him btw, mostly PR related but also KH does not seem to be that type of person that will take that risk. I just feel that in life mental help is very important and it's obvious this kid will need a serious mental evaluation and help. I do believe in redemption and that people can overcome these bad things and become better person.

Could've defended himself with *drumroll* not being a little shit but here we are.

Yes they can. It's not about destroying the kid. He can have thay redemption arc as an iron worker or a nurse. I don't give a f***, he decided to act a fool and he got what was coming. NHL is a privilege.

Yes and for the sake of the kid (one of the things I argued against selecting Mailloux) that is better done in a market that is quieter.

Some are irredeemable like Mitch Miller - that kid had every chance to even fake it and he couldn't do that part right.

3rd pair can be a pure defensive duo. Eat the ugly minutes. Ideally Xhekaj can be one of those guys, and then a Savard type as the other.

The top 4 is absolutely set with Guhle, Mailloux, Hutson and Reinbacher. I think both of Hutsons and Maillouxs D issues have been overblown. Give them a couple of years, being solid defensively is not difficult to learn. Guys get better.
Don't think there are recent cup winners that had 2 guys in their top 4 playing more sheltered minutes. I also think being solid defensively is very difficult to learn.

I'd say that's scoring goals and creating them, by far.

Well the most gifted hockey players tend to play forward naturally.

Defensemen spend a lot more time in the AHL on average because not many people can just step on NHL ice and defend against the absolute elite right off.

Heck the post I quoted claims Mailloux will go from struggling in the AHL to being a guaranteed top 4 staple in the NHL because… defense learns itself or something.

Mailloux isn't a guaranteed anything, don't get me wrong. It's just harder to score goals, there's a reason a lot of junior scorers recycle into defensive players. It's because, even if it is not an easy task, it's easier to be defensive than to be offensive. Well, actually good at it at least.

Yeah it's hard to count that when Streit played 3 games
Not a cup winner but the Preds of 2017 did have a make-up similar to that, but instead of having specialists in the bottom pair, they had just whoever they could get their hands on, lol. Irwin and Weber both played 11 minutes on average lol.

The difference here would be that we'd have one pair good enough to play 25 minutes but the other isn't. The mintues Mailloux and Hutson would be eating are scarce and easy to play. It's the even-strength and PK minutes that are tough.

Yeah right now he’s on the Cody Ceci trajectory. I mean that’s fine for him and his career, but it’s not someone I’d pencil into our top 4 long term.

If we win the lottery and get Celebrini, where does he play next season for us?? Second line center over Dach? winger on top 2 lines?? And with who?

And what is our according plan?? We try to get competitive as soon as next season?? What is our move on the trade front to accomplish that?? Go get a top 4 RHD? Or still going for another young talent up front ala Zegras or Necas??

On the wing with Dach or Suzuki. As for the rest, I’ll reach out to HuGo and see how they respond. Check back later.
