What do you guys think of Justin Poirier with our 2nd/3rd round pick? Small yes, but he's a thick guy. 5'6 180lbs. Incredible goal scorer. Not a one trick pony, can score multiple ways. We already have Caufield who is undersized but Poirier would only be ready 3-4 years from now.
TSLH scouting report:Justin Poirier lost a few feathers during the campaign. Seen as one of the top prospects in the QMJHL at the start of the season, opinions have softened due to his one-dimensional style. He's a goal scorer, pure and simple.Bilan des meilleurs espoirs de la LHJMQ | Repêchage 2024

Yes but it’s better to use a 2nd or 3rd rounder to pick a one-dimensional player with hopes he turns it around. Not a Top 10 pick.

I'll be very surprised if Catton was taken top 5, most ranking listing have him in the 6-10 range.
Those rankings don't mean very much. Even the end of year rankings are to be taken with a giant grain of salt. Those rankings tend to rank the consensus players more or less where the consensus puts them. Team lists range more and include players who are lesser known to bystanders.

It is very likely one or more teams has Catton top 5. They only need to hold such a pick for Catton to be a top 5 pick.

Another naïf who takes his speculation as certitude that Habs won't pick Catton because our two former top picks have been big bodies.

If Catton is perceived as BPA by the brass, he will be the selection.
Lias Andersson is the “smallest” player Bobrov has picked in the top 20 of round 1 in the last decade. He’s 6’1”. Believe what you want to. BTW, I think he sucks as a head scout but his track his track record in round one is pretty clear.

And even with a 2nd or 3rd, there are several players that I prefer to Justin Poirier. Personally, if he is still there in 5 round, I could select him.

Ten or more years ago, prospects with bloodlines werent necessarily good, but since a few years, they pretty much all hit their top potential. The Tkachuks, Chychrun, the Doan kid, Nylander, etc. I'm convinced Tij Iginla will be a player. If we draft around 10th, he's my choice. For forwards, Id want Demidov, Lindstrom and Catton before him, but after that tier, he's the best available imo.

Outside of the bloodline... It's the IQ, tenacity/athleticism, nose for goalscoring, how he can cut into the middle of the ice, etc. His overall skillset of a goalscoring machine with a complete game.

The bloodline and his face is just an extra, an intangible that makes him such an obvious f***ing easy pick.

They're not using a premium pick on Hutson's brother, I'd eat my hat.

You're 100% spot on regarding that.

If Winnipeg's pick ends up being 22nd or higher, I can definitely see them trying to move up or drafting who's available out of Boisvert, Sennecke, MBN (will likely be picked much earlier). If we manage to snag Lindstrom as well, that would be a huge influx of big talented forwards in our system.

Just watched Iginla first playoffs game. Beautiful player and a lot of great tools. And so young on top of that. I don’t think it’s a stretch saying he could become the second best forward of this draft.

Would love the Habs to draft him if Celebrini, Demidov, Levshunov and Dickinson are gone comes our pick.

Tier 1 : Celebrini

Tier 2 : Demidov, Dickinson, Levshunov

Tier 3 : Lindstrom, Iginla, Buium, Catton, Parekh, Helenius

For me it’s the top 10, in no particular order within each tier.

What could be interesting is one of those could potentially slide to mid 1st round, which might not be impossible for us to reach with the Winnipeg pick and an another asset.

I have concerns about drafting any defenceman this high who, by comparison, makes Mailloux look like Scott Stevens in the defensive zone.
Yep. You might be a bit exaggerating but not far from reality. Anyways, he is the last kind of player we actually need. And he won’t be BPA available at our spot.

I need to watch Lindstrom carefully and analyze him well in the next few games.

The thing with big guys like that is that they are dominant in Juniors cause they are bigger than everyone else but could have average NHL career if they have some IQ issue.

It's exactly the case with Josh Anderson.

Big , fast strong very good shot but not smart at all.

Lindstrom' goal on his rush the other day was a Anderson special...same.but as a lefty.

It works sometimes.in the NHl but after a few years.,.the NHL defencemen will time you if you are one dimentional on zone entrance and the play will die in the corner.

As.I Said I have Catton way in front of Lindstrom but I want to put my.eyes on Lindstrom a lot more in the next few days.

But but but

He is already 5’10 180 and he broke all of lanes records as a 17 year old ? No?

The offense isn't nearly the same level, he still has similar concerns to Lane, just a bit more of a competent defender at the same age.

The thing is that our LD situation is the least of our concerns, so adding another Hutson who are very similar, wouldn't make sense.

The investment will probably be heavily on the forward side of things, and if not, they'd probably look at a right shot defenseman who is more defensively competent maybe like an EJ Emery.
