Sharks moving up to grab one of the top D that is likely to fall and Buffalo picks up a decent 2nd while only dropping 3 spots. Can still trade the 1st for Necas or McGroarty or something like that and have draft capital to add a pretty good project player in the 2nd. Good move by them I think

I mean if we could get a young 2C on a good contract I would definitely consider moving the pick, but I doubt anyone wants Demidov that much
posted about this in another thread, but looking back at all of the recent-ish center trades, they universally did not require a piece nearly as premium as a top five pick. they were multi-piece packages with futures, supporting roster players, and mid/protected first round picks.

(referring specifically to the packages sent for eichel, hertl, horvat, lindholm, trocheck, and the wpg-lak dubois trade)

in other words… why not both? draft demidov, then swing a multi-piece trade (perhaps a bit down the road) to fill the 2C void using less premium pieces. it's feasible that taking a wing at #4 would lead to an end state where they are better off at wing and center a year from now.

Apparently Pronman was on a podcast and said we would “consider” demidov at 4, but he thinks we will go with someone else.

The betting markets seem to think the Jackets would prefer Lindstrom to Demidov.

They have Lindstrom with much better odds to the Jackets than Demidov, and it's not just about the risk that Demidov is already off the board, because Montreal has the highest odds of getting Demidov.

I'm going to be so happy if it's either one of them.

If the Philly rumors are true, I think the FO is gonna be pretty happy as well

There's literally nobody they have already on the roster that would make it worthwhile.
Legit the only player that I could consider is Konecny but at 2 years remaining until a major payday...well...we all knew it would take a kings ransom to snag that pick from us.

Would depend on the “roster player”. The first round pick would be either theirs or Colorado’s, both of them could/will make the playoffs next year. So I’m fine with turning down that offer for anything short of a top-line W / #2 D / top-6 C (obviously depending on age/contract, too).

ETA: See I’m late haha. Even if it’s Philly’s, I’d be wary of doing that, would really depend on the player.

Interviews with Siren and Timmins. Tidbits I found interesting:
  • Siren says their approach is just BPA (though position is factored into that)
  • They have only seen Demidov play on video.
  • They liked Demidov's personality a lot.
  • They have all the information that they need on Lindstrom's medicals.
  • The player's performance in the playoffs are more important. Mentioned as a follow-up thought to the rise of Sennecke and Iginla

My takeaway from this is that I think Lindstrom is going to be the pick even if Demidov is available. If so, I hope that they don't get the opportunity to pass on Demidov as, even though I really like Lindstrom, I don't want to feel conflicted about the pick.

And there was an interviewer from Montréal who was really obnoxious, bringing the Canadiens up all the time, when interviewing Demidov. That reinforces my wanting to see him go in the top 4 and not fall to them at #5.

5:20-9:40 the relevant segment there.

Based on recent discussions Marek has had, he predicts Levshunov will go to Chicago, Buium to Ducks ( :damnpc: ) and Lindstrom to CBJ.

Friedman thinks the draft starts at #4 in terms of action, there are teams who believe CBJ is motivated to do something big. He comments on the Lebrun report that PHI was indeed interested to move up, CBJ wanted picks 12, 32 + COL 1st '25 for 4OA which was too much for Flyers but CBJ and PHI will have talks again today at the draft. He's guessing there is a third team involved.
