Not small, but 3 of the other D are monster sized guys, 4 depending on how you view Yakemchuk with regards to the 7th.

From what I've seen he'll be tough to pass on. I don't get the felling that Parekh is Staios' type of guy (could be wrong) and we've said we'll be going BPA at 7OA so Buium could easily be it.

My guess is we end up with one of Buium, Iginla, or Levshunov

I'd be very happy with any of those three. I'd prefer the D but I'd be OK with Iginla.

I think Buium is a pipe dream now. He has little weaknesses, high floor high ceiling produced at an incredible rate and closed off the season with a bang.

Could go as high as 2 and I doubt he makes it past 5.

Yeah, it's worth noting by the time our pick is ready to join the team and maybe play in a top 4 capcity, Chabot will be 30 and on the last 2 years of his deal, so you can ride that ELC until maybe it makes sense to move Chabot

Meanwhile, we hope/need to fill the RHD spot now, and not wait.

Elite Prospects has him at 6' 183 ... I am not saying he is small ; he is smaller than NHL average according to the most reliable info available to me,.. They usually do a good job . I am sure there are exceptions depending on when the data comes in. I assume you watched him so you can see his relative size in the NCAA.

Shai is bigger and older so you could be right .. It would be a lot to grow, not that it has never happened,

I am, not down playing him I think he is very good.

I think he's this year's HF darling late-birthday prospect with great production but non-elite tools that NHL scouts tend to not be quite as high on.

In 2023 it was Reinbacher, 2022 it was Jiricek, 2021 it was Eklund, 2020 it was Rossi, 2018 it was Zadina.

Buium deserves the hype more than any of the other guys, but rightly or wrongly he'll probably get passed on for the big toolsy D like Levshunov, Silayev and Dickinson.

I watched him play a few games in the season and most in the NCAA tournament. I like him . I am just relaying my impression. I think somewhere in the 5-8 range is where he should be. If we look at how he did in the NCAA and say that he will be exactly that successful in the NHL .. he should go top 5.

He's listed at 6'2 on UoD's website, and 6'2 on the American's World Junior roster.

He's likely in between both, ~6'1.

At 6-2 he would be above NHL average size. He looked smaller to me when I watched ; I would have guessed 6 maybe a fraction more. Combine coming up so we'll know. What was that line from Youngblood again?

I take back any impression I left that may have inferred or be interpreted as he was small. Zeev Buium is not Small.

If you are looking for a 2 way Dman in this draft Buium is the most complete one available and the one I would guess right now has the shortest runway to the NHL.

I feel like the only tool Buium is missing is seperation speed. He would be an insane prospect if he had that.

But imagine if he just improves his acceleration and top speed by a normal amount or by a lot. Which is entirely possible and would result in an incredible package.

I think thats what NHL teams will be thinking and why he is the top two d gone.

That's pretty much true. He's not small and is a good skater, just not an elite one.

He thinks the game at such a high level even if his skating doesn't take a major step forward it may not prevent him from putting up numbers like in the case of Fox, Morrissey, etc...

Still on McKenzie's list he's ranked 8th and only got a single top 5 vote, so I'm not expecting him to go higher than Silayev or Levshunov, even if he deserves to.

The earliest I think he goes is 4 to Columbus. I think Anaheim goes Levshunov or Lindstrom. I don't think Montreal takes him. I think he'd be a good pick for UTAH at 6 or any that follow. If he gets past 7. I don't think he gets past 8.

Lots of good options between 3 and 7, Silayev, Levshunov, and Buium for a team looking at D, Iginla, and Lindstrom will probably get a lot of attention, and Dickinson Perekh plus Catton and Helenius for teams not affraid of smaller guys.

careful with that s word lol

I agree the top 10 is pretty loaded and they can generally go anywhere.

My top choice would be Silayev .. but there are not a lot of bad choices.

I want one of the RDs or a big tough LD; not a forward at this time. Plus another D with Boston's pick.

One of the reasons I like Silayev is for his shut down potential.. Not too many D his age play a big role in the KHL. Big Mobile, Strong defensively and Physical. If it was up to me and he was there , he wouldn't be there anymore.

I like Silayev too because of his size.
 
Silayev, Levshunov, Dickinson, Perekh & Buium seem to the names that pop up the most when it comes to the Senators pick.

I think Levshunov is 100% off the board by the time we draft. Dickinson, Buium and Silayev are maybe 50% off the board with Perekh being around 25% likely gone by the 7th. We will likely have the chance of picking one of the four defencement with Yakemchuk or a forward being dark horse picks. Should be a fun draft and unless they pull a Boucher really anyone ranked in the top 15 has a fair argument for being a good pick at 7.

Edit: I actually think Silayev may be around so moved him into the second group.
