Production is lacking but there are some good raw tools there. Might be a decent target with a late pick.

If they don't produce, and don't have a standout skill like skating or shutdown capabilities to transfer to the NHL, there isn't much point in using a draft pick on them. Lafond is big and can handle a puck, but that's about it and even at the Q level his skating is not very good.

He may be a pick late in the draft, just like Gabe Smith out of Moncton may be, but that is only because they are big. Not because they are good.

They don't often work out, whereas grabbing NHL skills or production has a much better track record.

Late picks don't work out often, but there are almost assuredly better options.

Demidov, although not a slam dunk. He is #2 for me

Honestly same but just trying to put Demidov dropping to us out into the universe. Maybe because of the Russian factor or teams wanting the big d.

Celebrini
Demidov
Lev
Lindstrom

Need to watch more of Silayev.

Really hoping to grab Noah Powell in the mid rounds. Heard some teams had been swarming Dubique to watch him.

Very good overaged guy with an incredibly large development the past season.

Put up 66 points in the 44 games since late November after starting the season with 2 points in his first 15. Huge frame, and moved well in the games I watched.

Has no rankings anywhere, but I'd be surprised if he weren't as high as top 50/75 come the final CSS rankings.

Was curious to see if anyone had an opinion on Cole Beaudoin.
Local kid playing for Barrie Colts. Listed at 6'2" & 210lbs and listed as a Centre.

Currently just shy of a PPG player for Barrie (62pts in 67games).
I am seeing him ranked late in the first round to early in the 2nd round.

This would put him right in our range with the BOS pick in the first round or our early 2nd round pick.
Assuming we take a RD with our first pick, would he be in consideration with one of the other 2 picks?

I really like him. Very smart player, has an excellent two-way game and has enough skill to play.

His skating has improved but he's still sluggish when he gets going. If he can keep improving his footspeed he'll be able to carve out a nice career, probably as a 3rd line C/LW.

Definitely should be on our radar with the Boston pick.

I hope we can stay below Calgary in the standings, I'm 90% sure that they will pick Iginla if they are in the 7-10 range, and our scouts may value Iginla highly.

Watch them pick right after us and offer us their pick and a 2nd for our pick because they want to select Iggy's kid.

We have the 7th overall, they have the 8th, and trade us the 8th overall and Dallas' 2nd for the 7th overall

He checks a lot of boxes for what our scouting staff typically looks for.

Wouldn't surprise me if our pick comes out of the WHL this year.

Unless someone falls, Iginla and Yakemchuk seems like the most likely options for us in the 7-9 range.

This is how I see the draft playing out more or less & given the Sens are likely drafting ouside the top 5, the two guys I think they should be looking at are the two RD Parekh & Yakemchuk. Parekh IMO is more of what we already have in Sanderson & Chabot & don't need him, but Yakemchuk IMO is what they do need. He's big, tough, mobile, good offensively, can play on both special teams & can be hard to play against. Having said that though if Leshunov RD falls to the Sens they take him & if Lindstrom falls to them I would consider picking him as well, then look to move Chychrun LD & maybe the other 1st rd pick to grab Yakemchuk RD. Drafting Lindstrom C/LW & Yakemchuk RD would be a great draft for Ott. If they can't trade Chychrun then they can grab a RD with their next 1st rd pick later in the first rd.

1. Celebrini C/LW
2. Demidov RW
3. Leshunov RD
4. Dickinson LD
5. Lindstrom C/LW
6. Catton C/LW
7. Buium LD
8. Parekh RD
9. Yakemchuk RD
10. Silayev LD
11. Iginla C/LW
12. Eiserman LW

Poulin said they’re looking for character and hockey sense when asked. Don’t know how or if that differs from before, but I think we probably previously prioritized physical tools more than hockey sense, so maybe it’s worth noting.

Hockey IQ wasn't even on a consideration the last 3 drafts, so that's encouraging somewhat.

While we don't need another LD, Buium looks like he's going to be a really great player. Very much an armchair GM opinion as this is solely based on watching some highlights and shift-by-shifts, but I honestly liked him the most from the group of D that are supposed to go high in the draft. I like the mix of passing, skating, and vision. I think he'll be a great two-way defenseman who will be really solid on the breakout. Again, just my casual opinion.

Silayev also really surprised me after watching some clips. People said his skating was good but wow, truly a unique player having that mix of size and skating. My concern with tall players is always their ability to move the puck quickly, but he seems to be able to move the puck well with pressure. Again, we don't really need a LD nor do I see us wanting to wait for him to come over from Russia, but I get the upside there.

@bert do you know if Dorion ever got in the way of sens drafting? Mann is highly respect but the past couple years have been very lean.

There was that soft rumour that Dorion wanted jarventie

Picking Jarventie when Peterka is sitting right there (and we drafted Stutzle earlier) definitely sounds like a Dorion move. Other than that it was a great draft though.

I think Poulin is missing out on a key hockey skill: skating.

What did Boucher have that made him a top pick for us?

Anyone can identify skating. This organization has moved away from identifying hockey sense as a primary tool. Dorion certainly did not have that ability. I don't think it was very high on manns list either. It's not an easy thing to pick up on, but some people are capable of it.

Poulin was a very cerebral player, its one thing to see it in a pro that's already in the NHL. It's another to identify it in a prospect. I do think that having played the sport at a high level really helps in identifying this trait. When Poulin was an analyst he was capable of showing it in clips. So I'm really happy he is talking about it. Thats one of the reasons I liked the hire. I hated when I saw people on here saying they just hired another t.v personality. Like all of them are the same... Poulin is way more cerebral than Button or Mcguire for example. Two guys that are just loud, never played and are frankly not very good at evaluating talent or breaking it down.

Speaking of good analysts big fan of Frankie Corrado. Very intelligent hockey mind, he would be a great scout if he ever decided to go that route He breaks down the play really well and articulates it in a way most people can understand. He has some amazing breakdowns on Twitter. If you're looking to educate yourself on the sport I'd encourage you to follow him.

When I log into TSN 1200 I usually listen to the morning clip. They interview one of Pounder, Johnson, Corrado and Dreger. Dreger is useless he says nothing. Don't bother listening to him. The other three are good. In terms of actual relevant content I'd rank them 1. Corrado 2. Johnson 3. Pounder. But all are really really strong.
