A good article on the top 15 projected D in this draft:

Lists the D we have been talking about with our first pick (Parekh, Dickinson, Buium, Silayev, Yak) and then goes out to list some D options that we have been discussing with our next 2 picks.

Adam Jiricek is an intriguing pick with his size and mobility being an RHD.
I know he had a major injury last year and is probably going to be drafted somewhere around midway through the first but if we were considering trading up or back in the draft, maybe he comes into play for us.

Trevor Connelly at 25 would be my choice if available
Few can make plays at high speed like he does
1.5 PPG in the USHL in no slouch
Would translate well at the NHL level imo
Doesn't really meet the teams desire for Character, at least not on the surface. that said, he's apparently done all the right things since (likely at the advice of his agent) and kids do mature. I'd certainly consider it but I think they'd really have to do their due diligence to make sure those character issues aren't going to rise up in the future.

Yep
That's why you don't pick him in the top 15 but I think he has mature from the incident

Very talented. Oozes IQ. What projections have him falling.

All the top 6 D have certain weaknesses , question marks and require further development. Parekh is an offensive dynamo . His offense can translate now or very soon. He needs to get stronger and improve his defense to a point where the overall return on the ice is a plus. I'd rather take someone with glowing scouting reports on his IQ than someone with major question marks about theirs ... I would stay away from the latter completely if there are any other concerns to overcome.
I just double-checked, he actually went up two spots since mid-season in Bob's list. Not sure why I had it in my head he fell!

Connelly posted an inappropriate picture, got caught, and now is damaged goods? I don't agree with this.

How many teenage hockey phenoms did stupid things (worse than this) but never got caught? And then went on to successful NHL careers and were praised for their character and work ethic? I bet a lot.

I don't see this as serious as the Mitchell Miller example or even the Logan Mailloux case.

Inappropriate?
Hmm that’s a bit of an understatement.
That was not the only issue.
There are stories of teammates not wanting to attend events he was a part of.
He was accused of racist slurs (I don’t buy theat there was nothing to that).
He lost the game for Canada.

But yeah posting a pic of a swastika you and your buddy made out of building blocks for everyone to see (cause that’s funny?) is a pretty big red flag on its own.
And he wasn’t just a kid. It was a little over a year ago.
Multiple gms are reported as stating they’re not touching him.

Ok fair enough. I admit, I don't really know anything about him. I just read about the swastika post... maybe he really is a jerk.

Didn't know that

Silayev drops and we pass on him I’ll be disappointed.

I think he would be an absolute steal at #7.

He’s only 17 and has what 1-2 year left on his KHL deal?

Would be hard to pass up 6 foot 7 mobile, rough D man!

And he's played a lot at RD this year. Not inconcievable he could play his off-side at the NHL level.

Fill some time.
Speculation is Levshunov to the Hawks at 2.
Grant has him outside his top 10. Sees some flaws. Thinks he's overrated.

Grant looking at Montreal having a crack at Sennecke, Lindstrom or Demidov.

He also thinks that Anaheim may be looking at Sennecke, or Yakemchuk, which would be wild.

Heard on The Athletic draft podcast...

The buzz at the combine is Yakemchuk didn't interview all that well, and teams were disappointed with his scores in the lower body testing. Apparently there are concerns about his natural athleticism? Sounds like a rough week for him.

Teams are falling in love with Stian Solberg. He was the standout interview for at least 6 teams and had great results in the physical testing. Some growing sentiment that he could actually end up jumping ahead of one of the 'big six' defensemen.

Seems like the concerns about Lindstrom's health are gone and he's locked into the top-5.

Ducks picked McTavish at #3 when he was ranked around #10.

They're not afraid to go for their guy
Mctavish was ranked 4th, he was expected to be taken very high.

They are a very good drafting team. Their run on D from 2021-2022 was incredible. Legit took 3/4 D in those 2 drafts who are/project better than every D taken outside of Chabot and Sanderson since 2015, and only one was a high pick.

That's odd, I heard that Pronman mentioned it was a herniated disc the other day (maybe in the same podcast?), that's something that at least in the past has often had lingering effects.

What is the story behind that? What did he do?

Pronman has been very off for me this year, not that I’ve ever felt he was reliable or good at the scouting aspect, but this year I’ve found myself finding even his reports on what scouts are saying is tilted in ways he wants.

If he likes a guy, he’ll single out and report the positive comments from scouts, even if it’s a minority opinion, and ignore and downplay all the others, likewise with guys he’s lower on.

He’s got a bias selection on what to report and on whom that corresponds with what he thinks about the draft.
