Pittsburgh, PA
Pittsburgh has one more pick. Will they take the local kid?
I’ve been chomping at the bit for the Pens to draft him. I love that guy. I’m glad they took Swanson but I would’ve absolutely preferred Humphreys

Agree it's crazy he got picked ahead of all the more talented 06 born kids. At the same time Gredig is trending better than most of them and played at a higher level as well. I wouldn't discount his NHL chances. He's probably better suited for an NHL bottom six role than most 06 kids.
I mean its a bit hard to argue that he is trending better than prospects who are a year younger than him. Last year Gredig was still in the U20 league and was not exactly dominating. Hasnt ever been notable in the junior national teams until this years WJC either. I dont disagree that he has a better shot at a bottom six role than some of the 06 born players. Its just that every NHL team can fairly easily get players that are just flat out better than Gredig for such a role. A lot of bottom six NHLers were notable junior players. Gredig is not.

No Ustinkov
No Galvas
No Hynnninen
No Cristoforo
Crazy. I think the knock on Galvas was size. He was too slight. Ustinkov probably didn't get drafted because of his lack of IQ and vision, completely ignoring his other qualities. Shocked they didn't get drafted but time to put the nose in the dirt to make it next year I guess. They have the talent.

Mistelbacher was trending nicely I thought. Late riser doing very well in playoffs for Swift Current. Strange that he got overlooked.

If this draft shows anything its that size isn't getting less important in todays NHL. At least not unless you excell in any other aspect of the game. Lots of tall risers in the first round. 120 players are getting picked ahead of Kiviharju. Misa falls to the fifth. Galvas and Zetterberg go undrafted. Jamiro Reber too. There is definitely a pattern there.
