I’d guess Hughes is trying to add size more than talent at this point. He doesn’t really need more skilled players, but a couple of big bottom 6 players would fit.

We saw at the two rookie games vs. the Leafs what a line of Thorpe, Florian, and Tuch can do. Once the three started to gel, they were a pain in the ass when they were on the ice. Big bodies on the forecheck are not easy to deal with. And Thorpe was able to net a couple of goals, too.

You always want them to take players who can produce, but in certain cases, to me, it's not the end all be all. I'm in favor of diversifying your prospect pool. You get your skilled guys who will put up the points, but you also need to add guys who if they make it, will play a different role that is just as vital to winning.

It might not look like that at first. You see them take someone and you look at who was available and that player doing better on the scoresheet. And you wonder what the hell the Habs were thinking. But down the road, you might be happy they took the non-productive prospect because they bring other elements to your line-up.
