judge glad the play at first base happened so everyone forgets about his error. like the pitcher on the red sox in 86 throws the wild pitch to tie the game and next batter buckner gets all the blame

But because it’s Judge and he also hit poorly in the postseason he’s not going to slide by, he might get criticized more for the hitting than the drop but he’s certainly gonna get criticism

Calvin Schiraldi. Former Mets player if memory serves.
Actually it was Bob Stanley who threw the wild pitch, Schraldi was out of the game after the previous three guys got hits and the wild pitch came earlier in the Mookie AB. Probably why people forget the game was already tied, Mookie came to the plate with the Mets trailing but the wild pitch tied it.

Stanley's nickname was "Steamer" I think?

I was aiming to "complete" my ballpark tour in 2025, but now I'm debating waiting for Tampa. Seeing them at a minor league park would feel a bit off. I'm missing Miami, Tampa, Dallas (saw a concert there but not a ballgame), and got rained out in St. Louis. I could hit all four in a week next July.

But with Vegas on the horizon (and possibly a couple expansion teams), it doesn't feel like a rush. I'm unofficially racing my buddy to get to every park although he goes with a different rule where he has to go back if the team gets a new stadium (KC soon). He wants to see the A's in Sacramento which isn't high on my priority list, but it's a short flight so I'll probably figure out an excuse over the next three years.

So I'll guess you don't have kids?

Yup, ditto for my buddy. Met up with college friends at Disneyland recently and that was a different experience with them having toddlers. They had to tap out at 6pm and then I could fully nerd out and do the Star Wars area.

Wife and I split the difference and do foster parenting. We took our foster baby to that Yankees/Red Sox game where Judge hit the go-ahead grand slam. She slept through it like a champ with headphone noise blockers.

I do like that we get downtime in between placements. I want to plan a week-long NJ tour when we're free next time.
This week at my office job, we were allowed to wear sports jerseys. Today I didn't see a single Yankee jersey, but I saw plenty of Met jerseys.
I hate to admit this as a Yankee fan, but the Mets are so much more fun, especially last year. Wife showed me a TikTok of a Yankee fan saying as much, that the Yankees just put in their wins like it's a job.

Also, I know several people who've moved to NYC and have taken up Mets fandom. I can't really blame them.

You foster kids? I'm so impressed. That's really fantastic.

I don't hate it even if it seems a little out of Rock N Jock rules. But maybe that's my pro wrestling sensibilities and I get excited when there's a surprise run-in.

It’s disgusting and reeks of something you’d pull in an All Star game rather than any serious game, they’re doing this mainly because they want to artificially recreate the Ohtani-Trout WBC AB excitement every night and try to appeal to the young bro demographic

How would that even work if the guy you want as your chosen bat…is on base? LOL, would you also get to ghost run your fastest guy?

Too many gimmicks is not good for sports. NASCAR has become an absolute joke of a motorsports series with all of its rule changes over the last two decades (shame because the on track racing these last few years has been spectacular). It started with a simple rule format of the best 12 drivers starting from scratch in the last 10 races to decide a championship. And now it turned into 16 drivers who won at least one race, entered in a playoff format where 4 drivers get knocked out in 3 playoff rounds in 9 races and having the final race decide who wins amongst 4 drivers. Absolute clown show.

My point, one gimmick turns into two gimmicks and then all of a sudden the entire sport is a gimmick. MLB has the new extra innings format, thats all that should be needed in terms of gimmicks.
