O'Reilly for me. I think that he'll take a step forward offensively this season. I'm hoping that he gets a good look in the first 4 games of training camp.

I’d say Akey. d can be hard to project but I think he has the highest upside.

Tough pick as an OHL homer, but I'm going O'Reilly.

He's the exact type of player this team has needed for like two decades.

Watch for his point totals to explode next year and put to rest any doubts on his NHL upside.
I’m optimistically hopeful he could get 90+ points this year

Top 5 and Tiers

1.Savioe - top line wing potential. Only blue chip in bad prospect system. Arrival this season or next.

2.O'Reilly - future hard ice 3C replacement. Big development year ahead with see if offensive potential manifests with junior team opportunity. Arrival three years..
3. Akey - prospective mid-size, puck mover 3 RD with some stretch upside to reach 2RD. Arrival window in three years.
4. Wanner - prospective hard ice goal suppression defender 3RD. Arrival window in two to three seasons.

5.Jarventie - second organization established AHL player with NHL games in. Recovery time on major injury with opportunity to complete for top 9 forward job in two seasons.
5.B Lavoie - big, productive mid-range shooter among the youngest of AHL top 10 goal scorers and at crossroads of NHL opportunity in Edmonton.

One thing I really like about Pracy is that he seems to really understand how guys develop differently. Jackson really seems to have a good overview of the teams age curves and rhe importance of replacing contracts with younger cheaper players.

I think the goal is have one guy from each draft year in the NHL with two prospects from each year with the potential to make the NHL.

2008: Henrique
2009: Kane / Ekholm
2010: Hyman / Skinner
2011: RNH
2012: Kulak / Brown
2013: Nurse / Janmark
2014: Arvidsson
2015: McDavid
2016: Draisaitl
2017: Skinner
2018: Bouchard / Emberson
2019: Podkolzin / Lavoie
2020: Jarventie
2021: Wanner
2022: Savoie
2023: Akey / Fischer
2024: O'Reilly / Vinni

I wouldn't be surprised if the Oilers start targeting some more guys from the 2020-2023 drafts that maybe aren't panning out with their respective teams or are going through waivers.

I see a guy like Luke Prokop (2020 draft) who was a 3rd round pick but saw time in the ECHL. Maybe Nashville is ready to move on from him?

Or maybe Chicago with so much young talent has soured on a guy like like Lukas Reichel (2020)?

Columbus is loaded with center prospects. A guy like Luca Del Bel Bulluz (2022) might be NHL ready but likely buried behind the higher drafted prospects.

Filip Mesar (2022) was almost traded earlier this year. With all the talent coming up, maybe they look to move him out.

This is a very good strategy for a way to manage the prospect pool, targeting players on teams with deep pools that may be blocked. You don't need to hit a home run just find a guy or two who can fill out a bottom of the roster role. Guys like Prokop can often be had for very little, like a 6th round pick in the future, but they have a much better shot at helping you someday soon that that 6th round pick.

Look at a guy like Verhaeghe. He was drafted by Toronto, traded with four others to the Islanders for Grabner, and then was traded to Florida for G Kristers Gudlevskis.

We need a tie breaker poll for #2. This is too close. The poster who voted Berezkin could've altered this result.

The Oilers have dabbled in this a bit over the years. A 3rd for a flyer on Flyer prospect Cooper Marody. Flip a 5th to Rangers for Grubbe. Both pending unsigned free agents though not necessarily stalled in pro prospect pools. I think they are in better position to do this now as an enhanced, more sophisticated information organization that brings stronger analytic modelling to support the eyes in the field.
