2024 DRAFT 9th Overall Zayne Parekh

Parekh in for Bean is an absolute no brainer but I seriously doubt it will happen until we are eliminated which is unfortunate. It's not how Huska operates.

I dunno. I feel like Huska, out of any of the coaches we've had in the past decade, will give Parekh a shot if he's truly head and shoulders above the other guys in practice. It may not be after one practice, but if 3-4 practices go by, and our vets don't step the f*** up, I see a good chance Parekh gets in.

I agree Zayne will get a game in down the stretch, I just think he should be put in immediately.

Bean and Pachal have been heavily sheltered sheltered over the past month, and have struggled big time. No reason Zayne couldn't get the same treatment while upgrading the skill level of this team significantly.

Immediately? No he should absolutely get at least 1 practice in first

Personally, I don't think one practice would provide much value at all, certainly not enough to make any noticeable difference in his play. He can either provide value now or he can't. I think he can help this team, but I obviously know he won't play tonight for numerous reasons.

No better way to get your feet wet and gain some confidence then against two of the weaker teams in the NHL.

how does learning routines and set plays provide no value? It also allows him to practice with his partner instead of just going out there. It's not just about him learned but his teammates learning about him

Of course they provide value over time, but they are not learned in a single day, and in game situations provide far more value than practices ever will.

Getting in game reps vs the worst team in the NHL is about as good of an opportunity as you can get to integrate someone into your lineup.

More beneficial for him to go to the Wranglers and help them push for the playoffs and a playoff run there in my opinion. Id be surprised if he plays in any of the games this week. Barring an implosion.

I just don't agree with that approach. If you can improve your team, you do it. St. Louis had no issues throwing in guys like Snuggerud and Dvorsky into a lineup competing for a playoff spot in the midst of a massive winning streak.

Pachal has had just 5 defensive zone starts at five on five since the start of March, and has an xGF% under 40. It's not as if we have a bottom pair that's performing well currently.

Alternatively, we have a few Dmen here who have been studying the system all year and still can’t execute.

Flames fans saw Makar get dropped into a tied playoff series and tilt the ice with no practice beforehand. Parekh put up a generational junior hockey season, let him play

Probably worth seeing what him and Suniev can do.
If they lose tonight, in the most Flamesy way possible, I think you just have to pull the trigger on getting them into the lineup.

I'm arguing in favor of 1 practice, not 5 games. I'm all for him playing

Makar was a higher touted prospect and played time at a higher level.

I'd have him (and Suniev) in because it's the Sharks. They're terrible, if the team overall can't beat the Sharks even with 2 rookies then you don't deserve to make the playoffs.

Flames need to run the table and still need help to get in, the past couple losses (Oilers and Vegas in OT) including that BS Dallas one (0 points) pretty much sealed it. All should have been wins (or at least with Vegas not a loss from that kind of goal).

I won't cry over Parekh or Suniev not getting any games this year. I'm probably in the majority where I think they'll get a game or two at the end of the year when we're officially out. A loss to Minnesota is the final nail and we have two games after that, so I think they'll both play 2 games.

I think there's an argument to be made that stuffing him in without even looking at him in practice could ruffles feathers in the room. You're pushing a guy out who's been part of getting the Flames to this point for a guy who failed to make the team out of camp.

It could lead to Parekh being resented by teammates possibly. I'm not saying that would be justified.

I'd argue heavily that we aren't anywhere near as bad as we used to be in that sense. Otherwise guys like Zary, Pospisil, Coronato don't get the chances they have this year. Or Wolf for that matter.

Yeah, I'm going to have to fully agree here.
Also, turns out that the Flames were mostly right in their not rushing prospects to the show, because most of them turned out to be busts anyway.

Calgary for the last decade or so has been really good in transitioning their prospects to the NHL; the only time I can really think of where it was clear a guy was ready to make the jump and the Flames vet-boxed him in was the preseason Janko dominated and got sent down.

I know it seems forever ago, but remember, Honzek won a spot on the opening night roster as 19 year old with less than 80 games played over the two prior seasons. This team is willing to give young guys a look if they're ready. Look at Klapka going from 5 minutes a night to 10 minutes playing down the stretch.
