Like at least draft overagers who are good not overagers who are still struggling in junior.Another overager. Last 8 years or so they waste 5th rounders onward on overage hail marys.
I mean it’s Hail Marys anyways at that roundAnother overager. Last 8 years or so they waste 5th rounders onward on overage hail marys.
Its interesting Desharnais is absolutely the best example of it working out for the Oilers and all we really got out of that pick was about a 100 games of a 3rd pair d-man 7 years after being drafted and now he's a UFA.These kind of 5th - 7th round picks seem like 'reward' picks for scouts to select, as opposed to an eye to development. Pretty much a waste. They did find Desharnais with a 7th and he took a long route to the Oilers.
I think the thing with a lot of the overrage picks the Oilers make is that they never actually seem to be actual hail marys. The upside on these guys very rarely seems like its high and best case scenario you end up with a bottom pair/bottom line guy years down the line who might get a cup of coffee in the NHL in their careers.I mean it’s Hail Marys anyways at that round
Exactly and you never know when you might find another Desharnais or Wanner or Kemp, right? I have never been all that concerned about picks in the later rounds anyways because we kinda suck at them!I mean it’s Hail Marys anyways at that round
They have had some luck with later picks lately. Skinner, Mcleod, Desharnais, also Kesselring became a full time NHler. It is the failure of the top picks to develop that's been hurting the team: Jay-Poo, Broberg and Holloway (both getting better), Bourgault. These kind of 5th - 7th round picks seem like 'reward' picks for scouts to select, as opposed to an eye to development.
