Just like when we were down 0-3 I’m hopeful but not delusional. This could come back and bite us time will tell
Itll only bite us as hard as any 1st rd draft pick miss though. We didnt lose a pick here. Kids good too. Hey down 0-3 turned out not to be too delusional after all. Like the game story in Game 1 told us. We did tie it after all.

He really does look like a good pick at #32.

The only legit criticism is that the pick could have been used to get a player that can help now like Henrique but they're likely just a rental.

These are the kind of gambles that a contender has to make and that's why I'm okay with it.

I don't know anything about the kid, but seems like a decent pick.

Hopefully this means he will be a star in NHL like other London Knight alumni, and Mark Hunter will be our new GM.

This is a really solid pick for the Oilers. O'Reilly played down in the lineup for the Knights this season and was tasked with a lot of defensive responsibility as an OHL rookie, and he thrived. On an OHL powerhouse in London, O'Reilly didn't receive much PP time, but still scored over .8 PPG.

O'Reilly is an energetic forward with great attention to detail in his game who does the things needed to win. A former defenseman turned forward who plays an energetic, physical two-way game with high potential for an offensive breakout next season.

There is another forward in Portland I would love the Oil to take a hard look at with one of their later picks in Diego Buttazzoni. He's smaller and has two WHL seasons under his belt, but much like O'Reilly, his production was solid despite being pushed down the lineup on a veteran-laden team.

My point being if I as an Oiler fan recognize those guys from the Avs who I don’t cheer for and don’t really know much about, it means they did something to stick out in my memory. I doubt the same can be said about some of the guys listed as rebuttals. Benson? You think anyone outside Edmonton remembers Tyler Benson? Marincin? Brandon Davidson? Our drafting outside of the first round has been horrific forever. This guy seems like he knows a thing or two about later round picks.

Leon welcoming the new guy nothing but class. Sure sounds like a guy with one foot out the door like some keep saying
Love seeing Leon welcoming the new kid. Cruisecity in shambles.

Words from my buddy who's a London Knights season ticket holder:

O'Reilly is a fiesty player...digs in the corners and great hands around the net.

Great pick for the Oilers...O'Rielly is going to be a great player in the NHL.

This year was his 1st full year with Knights...and became a big part of the team. 20 goals, 36 assists in 68 games. I'm sure he'll be in London next few years to continue growing.

This seems like a smart move thinking two years down the road. Either we signed Connor, Leon and Bouchard and are tight at the cap, we need young players to contribute at entry level and early RFA salaries or one or more is gone and we need higher level prospects than we had befoe this draft to step up.

And there is nothing stopping our new GM to use him as trade bait at deadline for a rental ... ala Ried Schaffer.

Interesting info about this kid is that he was a RD up until 3 years ago so he has the defensive game down.

I like what Jackson said yesterday "we have to get the pipeline going again."

One way or another, the MC-Drai era will come to an end and its time to start down the "futures" road.

I wonder if the club will offer Lavoie a new contract? I would think so--the next few days will tell an interesting story.

This is such a dumb trade. You just traded away next years asset they could have used at the deadline. Also the only way this isn't trading a higher pick for a lower is if they somehow win the cup next year and than the pick number is the same.
Pretty early to be saying something like this.

A. He’s still an asset
B. I think his value will only rise
C. IMO A year of development in the McDrai window is more valuable than picking possibly a couple picks earlier.
D. We can’t trade all of our picks.

It might back fire but clearly the Oilers wanted this kid. Sometimes you have to shoot your shot.

Point "D" is bang on. "Win now" is fine but there is a long term future to consider in any business or organization.

I stopped watching the draft at like pick 25.

Needless to say I was very confused to see oilers making a pick at the Sphere on tik toc

Interesting to look at London's scoring production. O'Reilly finished ninth with 56 points but only 11 PP which is 20% of total production. Only one guy ahead of him Max McCue who's three years older had 21% of his points via PP while everyone else was 30% and higher.

Easton Cowan had basically the same production in his draft eligible year 20G 33A 53Pts who bumped to 96 Pts this season on the Knights wagon team. There may be latent offensive production as O'Reilly gets more minutes and prospectively more power play time as London graduates players. Good motor, strong defensive game and intensity. Will be interesting to see how/if more scoring follows. But if they get a quality hard areas 3C out of this I'd be happy.

What are the conditions?
It better be lottery protected, you just never know with the fans here. Stumble out of the gate and this board will be saying we miss the playoffs and a lock for a lottery pick. :sarcasm:
From Seravalli’s tweet:

Conditions on #Flyers/#Oilers pick swap:

Edmonton will convey its 2025 first-round pick to Philadelphia unless it is in the Top 12, in which case it will slide to 2026.

In other words: it’s a Top 12 protected pick. PHI has three first-rounders next season.
