I was recently thinking about how few franchises in North American professional sports have winning championships as their top priority and everything else secondary...and it's a pretty damn small list.
How many truly serious NFL franchises are there anymore? Certainly not Jacksonville.

I would say less than 10, then a large group that would love to win one, but are content being in the mix for the playoffs, and a handful at the end that just don't care, more or less a bell curve
I'd say these guys are the serious ones currently, with varying levels of success of course

Good list.
Washington is on their way up and they're going to try to be in that group post-Snyder. I feel like Seattle is mostly serious? Pittsburgh is both serious and complacent at the same time; they demand competitive play but they aren't willing to take risks to get to the next level, like the Toronto Maple Leafs if the Leafs weren't a failed abortion for much of the past 50 years. I feel like TB cares, but not at the level of a team like Baltimore? Minnesota does too but I want to see how they handle their QB situation. Nothing else is jumping out at me.
Someone (Kevin Clark, IIRC) made the point a couple years ago that despite every team talking about “wanting to compete” only about 6 teams at any given point are truly trying to win a SB. Everyone else is making up the numbers.
Starts with owner. Do they hire good people and trust their decisions. Then GM and scouts, can they identify talent and manage the cap. Coaches, can they run a team and coach up players.

My expectation was that the Bears are going to hire McCarthy, so reading that they requested permission to interview him while still a Cowboy is making me worried that this team is dumb enough to trade assets for him, too.
Well technically, his contract will expire soon in January. He's not under contract like Payton was.

Yep. We are up to 5 openings. Realistically, I can probably only see LV and Dal as others.
Cincy, the run in Dec/Jan saved Taylor. Gannon, Steichen, should get to year 3. Indy needs to figure out the QB. But, both HC need a good year 3 or could be gone afterwards. Ten, I mean you moved off Vrabel, so need to give the young HC a shot. But, it's a key decision if the call is draft a QB. Need to then trust the HC to be there for another 2-3 years to develop the kid.
I don't see anyone else being fired.

Because the average NFL HC sucks. Not as in, will likely not get your team to the Super Bowl. As in, will leave your team in complete disarray after 1-3 years when you bottom out again.
Give McCarthy a good roster and he'll probably hire good coordinators and get the team to the playoffs. Most coaches in the NFL can't even say that.
He's just an uninspired, bland choice.

Raiders season was a disaster from the start. Figured they would have run with AOC to give him a legit shot from the beginning but ran far too long with Minschew. Then Adams bails when they should have made up their mind on him in the offseason. Either he’s all in or he’s out.
0-6 in division. Clearly HC and QB and management are behind their division rivals. Starts with Davis. Neither QB is a worth trading up for. If they fall to 6, think about it but not giving up assets which LV is low on for one of these guys.
Not shocked. But really not landing a high end OC without someone better at QB. Wonder if Grubb looks to reunite with Deboer in college.

Ryan Grubbs went all pass happy which cause the Seahawks run game to be absolutely terrible. Geno became a turnover machine, the run game was lukewarm at best and Seattle didn't know what identity they were.
The play calling was bad, the defense was running on fumes as they were getting gassed.

He’s a perfectly good coach. Not great. But good. As a guy noted today, when his starting QB is healthy, he pretty much always gets you double digit wins and a playoff berth. For many franchises, getting into the playoffs on a consistent basis would be a game changer.
