What is the format? Is it the same as the Russian tournament - 2 games in the Q, 2 in the O, and 2 out West?

Second goal was nice for Schmidt. CHL is up 3-0 now after a bad misplay by the US goalie.

Interesting that Craig Button decribed Schaefer as a "lock" for Canada at the WJ during the 1st intermission - i dont think even he really beleives that. He has looked great and id love him to be there but hes not a lock at all

Schaefer was really good that period and had a great goal but yeah, Button doesn't know who the locks are. Year after year everything is a best on best and there are about 30 locks for the WJC team with Button.

Not surprised by score at all. Exactly what I expected. Will get more of that in Oshawa.

I prefer the old Canada Russia series because most of the WJC contenders could actually play.

I tend to agree although I don't really recall many of those Russian players being highly rated. I think these games are more to replace the top prospect games then the Canada vs. Russia games.

I didn't see the first intermission when Button apparently called Schaefer a lock for the WJC team which like others I kind of doubt. I'd like to see Schaefer at least invited to the WJC camp though. The few times I've seen him play he seems to rise to the occasion every time which has resulted in Canada winning several gold medals.

Nothing will top the Canada Russia series ever. Wish they’d bring it back but we have a bunch of snowflakes that think kids have to do with how their country is run

They have an OHL top prospects game coming up in January. I assume the WHL and QMJHL have the same. That’s probably what is replacing it so they can get more talent out there.

Top 23 in east vs west prob 46 of the best draft eligible in every league getting eyes on them and then if every league did that 46x3=138 total players getting their name out there vs just the 46 best CHL guys in 1 game.

From this way each league brings revenue and the chl as a whole makes triple the profit and triple the players get looked at by scouts- everybody wins.

To Canada's credit, we're really cranking out terrific hockey players. Hopefully it will quiet the people who LOVE to DUMP on Canadian Hockey - and they are almost always Canadians.

Nah, they never really took that event all that seriously for the first 8 years of whatever corporate sponsor it had. There were a few. A complete waste of time, money and effort footing the bill bringing them over here. Money can be better spent elsewhere.

The US is our main competition and rival now for the next 30 years....A better format would be 6 games. WHL v USHL OHL v USHL and QMJHL v USHL. not the U18 USNTDP. A true U20 World Junior prep and evaluation.

It's not about Russia. I want to see the legitimate contenders to make the Canadian WJC team, or at least the majority of them. It doesn't matter which country they play. They already have the CHL top prospects game.

Canadians sure do love to eat their own.
