I like Ryder but there's not a whole lot there.

He has good speed, works hard and seems to know where to be in general. He is not going to be his dad, but could definitely see him carving out a bottom 6 role in the NHL at some point.

I put zero emphasis on a pre-preseason game when they had what 1 or 2 practices since the offseason? It's not even worth watching IMO never mind evaluating players. Imagine not playing in 6 months then being tossed out there in two games.

Though it's a good point, at the same time the players knew these early games were coming up and that various scouts would be watching. The borderline, character guys who know well they need to make an impression will come in as prepared as possible (preferably by getting some time on the ice beforehand). Character counts. Lud, Spellacy and Rolston come to mind, as does Lardis, before he got sick.

Columbus is apparently in the trade market for a forward still. We have a bunch of forwards under contract already not including Nazar. Could send someone their way if playing time ends up being an issue for someone.

i don't know that the hawks have a forward to trade for anything of value columbus could offer. still a very shallow team, particularly on right wing.

Yea I dont see an NHL player there at all. Most bottom 6 players on good teams were actually pretty good prospects who were just marginally too slow mentally or physically (hands, feet) to create offense consistently in the NHL. Obviously there are exceptions, but you usually need to have outstanding defensive value

Rolston doesnt even come close, imo

I'll reserve judgement for now but just because a player has experience it doesn't gift them an NHL job.

All of this assumes that everyone is healthy and available to play every game. I think we know that won't be the case - like ever

I would love for this to be the case, but often times these coaches will play crappy vets until the bitter end before giving a promising kid a shot.

So frankly I’ll believe it when I see it.

I honestly don't see Nazar making the NHL roster unless he is one of the top six forwards in camp at a mnimum. Might need to be top four.

Also don't see Slaggert making it at all. Think he benefits playing more minutes at Rockford than seven a night on the NHL roster, even if he propably is a bottom six player,
