Any news or views on Yak in the WHL playoffs?
Much has been made about his drop in production this past year. I just so happened to be looking at Bowen Byram's stats and noticed a comparable drop in his draft plus one season.
I know they are different players; Byram has speed and Carter is more physical and truculent. They are both gifted offensively.
Byram has faced a learning curve his first five years in the league but now seems to have arrived as a bonafide top 4 D on Buffalo's blueline.
I just mention it in passing.
During parts 2020-21 and 2021-22, his first two NHL seasons, Byram dealt with concussion issues and at points struggled to feel like himself both on and off the ice. He then was out nearly half of 2022-23 with a lower-body injury. In total, he missed 126 games to injury through his first three years with the Avalanche.
Warne is fckn terrible. I used to try and listen to his podcast (more Sens content, must check it out) and it's even worse. It's funny when he has a melt down about TSN1200 though. Some people here think Wallace is salty or has an axe to grind with the past iteration on Sens management....Warne takes the cake and runs a country mile with it. Lol.Steve Warren with an Ottawasun effort in his article about analyzing where Carter Yakemchuk is at. Don’t read it
Warne’s conculsion- “everybody is different”
I came to read a hockey article by our hockey guy writing in the Hockey News on the analysis of Yakemchuk and his conclusion is “everyone has a unique body and brain and who knows what that means”.

Warne was bad on the radio and his podcast is worse.Warne is good in the radio. They should take his pen away for his article on Yakemchuk. It’s not a modern parenting article, it’s hockey articlle.
Wally is going for grumpy stuck in the mud guy, he comes off as a nag, love me some Yorkie, Wally has a Karen vibe to him.
I kind of love Wally’s persona tbh lmaoWarne is good in the radio. They should take his pen away for his article on Yakemchuk. It’s not a modern parenting article, it’s hockey articlle.

I used to run into Wallace a lot when he was with TSN, he was an egotistical ass clown. I hadn’t seen him in a while until last month and his professional humbling really seems to have helped him be a nicer guy.I kind of love Wally’s persona tbh lmao

Did you watch Yak in training camp? I felt the same way as you but his training camp performance made me feel a lot better about the pick.I have a lot of hope for Yak, but passing on Buium, Dickinson or Parekh might come to absolutely haunt this franchise.
I wanted Parekh at the draft.

Yak’s performance was inconsistent in the games I watched, but at his best I really like him. He’s got a ton of potential to wind up being a two-way force imo.
Staios mentioned that his coach stifled him offensively this season too so I’m looking forward to seeing him get coached by Green eventually. He’s gonna be a good fit for him because he seems to balance defensive structure with allowing offensive creativity.
I see Yak in the pros as being a much more effective player with good players around him & he will certainly improve Ottawa's offensive production from the back end. I see him playing with Sanderson eventually given he is a different kind of player & brings a different game that can add to Sanderson's offensive game while Sanderson should help yak defensively.Yak might also a player when he’s taking nice passes and passing to forwards who run perfect routes he becomes so much more effective. Taking perfect passes from Chabot and Batherson and passing pucks to Tim Stutzle and Brady Tkachuk makes a guy who starts and leads the rush like Yakemchuk so much more effective
Of all places, why did Jake Sanderson live in Montana? My hope in Yak comes from his preseason debut. I haven't watched him in the WHL other than his highlights.
If he can put up 2 goals and 3 assists in 3 games at 18 years old I think we can expect a reasonable amount of success from him in his NHL career.
I know it is a small sample size but it is something.
It is also interesting that Yak grew up in the Calgary area just one town over from where Sanderson went to high school. That will be quite a pairing.
His dad lived there, bunch of ex NHLers lived there in off season. Jake moved to Calgary at age 12.Of all places, why did Jake Sanderson live in Montana?
Ah cool, just felt strange that a small town in Montana of all places was so popular for the NHLers. His dad lived there, bunch of ex NHLers lived there in off season. Jake moved to Calgary at age 12.
I doubt that Yak will play in the NHL next season; Sanderson waited until he matured before doing it. Yak is not as good as Sanderson so I think it would be best to let him play in the AHL for a year or so until he gains experience playing against adult pros. I am hoping the Senators acquire an experienced NHL level RD that is better than Matinpalo and possibly better than one or both of Zub or Jensen to improve the D core.Yak will probably spend time between the AHL and NHL next year then go full time the year after
unless he proves this coming season that he is ready in training camp then you probably find a way to get him in
