2024 7th OA : Carter Yakemchuk (RHD)

Much has been made about his drop in production this past year. I just so happened to be looking at Bowen Byram's stats and noticed a comparable drop in his draft plus one season.

I know they are different players; Byram has speed and Carter is more physical and truculent. They are both gifted offensively.

Byram has faced a learning curve his first five years in the league but now seems to have arrived as a bonafide top 4 D on Buffalo's blueline.

I just mention it in passing.

During parts 2020-21 and 2021-22, his first two NHL seasons, Byram dealt with concussion issues and at points struggled to feel like himself both on and off the ice. He then was out nearly half of 2022-23 with a lower-body injury. In total, he missed 126 games to injury through his first three years with the Avalanche.

That slowed Byram's development down a lot.
Byram's skating (speed, power, edge work) is really elite.. even Dave Poulin would agree
He can be a one man break out kind of D man
High end vision
Thinks the game well

I don't think its a good comparable.

Steve Warren with an Ottawasun effort in his article about analyzing where Carter Yakemchuk is at. Don’t read it

Warne’s conculsion- “everybody is different”

I came to read a hockey article by our hockey guy writing in the Hockey News on the analysis of Yakemchuk and his conclusion is “everyone has a unique body and brain and who knows what that means”.

Warne is fckn terrible. I used to try and listen to his podcast (more Sens content, must check it out) and it's even worse. It's funny when he has a melt down about TSN1200 though. Some people here think Wallace is salty or has an axe to grind with the past iteration on Sens management....Warne takes the cake and runs a country mile with it. Lol.

Warne is good in the radio. They should take his pen away for his article on Yakemchuk. It’s not a modern parenting article, it’s hockey articlle.

Wally is going for grumpy stuck in the mud guy, he comes off as a nag, love me some Yorkie, Wally has a Karen vibe to him.

Another shallow, click bait puff piece that takes you no where.

I used to run into Wallace a lot when he was with TSN, he was an egotistical ass clown. I hadn’t seen him in a while until last month and his professional humbling really seems to have helped him be a nicer guy.

This 100%.

Used to see him at games all the time when he was working with the Sens . The bolded is bang on and he also came off as super greasy around women.

Not a fan whatsoever .

No idea what he is like since he was let go other than seemingly bitter all the time
