I hope the lesson learned here is that you need to take the best players available rather than trying to craft a defensive team or reward players attending optional tournaments, or whatever it was that drove their decisions.
WJC has never been about structure it’s been making a team of your top fire power and hoping for the best in a short tournament . It is why it is so unique and fun to watch.

I just got in the door from seeing the game at the CTC tonight.

The same management team that lost in the quarters last year was brought back again, and they added Scott Salmond. Same management team same result, a loss in the quarters to Czechia. The first time that Canada has lost in the quarters in back to back years.

The offense was not there. 11 players scored 1 goal in this years tourney and one player Nadeau scored two.
Canada lead the tournament in shots ln goal but the team had no finishers.
We did lead the tournament in another area penalty minutes with 113 Kazakhstan was next with 79 minutes.
Schaeffer was an unfortunate loss to the team.
Carter George played great. He was really the only bright light on that whole team. The team lacked chemistry and cohesion. A lot of plays they couldnt commect on or finish. The so called big guns were not effective.
Should have made better decisions on the picks and Carter Yakemchuk would have been nice to see his dynamic play.
The games were filled with passing errors, missed nets and soft shots that had very little mustard on them. Stupid undisciplined penalties the list goes on.....

It isn't the players faults. They were destined to fail when hubris is coming from the top down.

This is the classic case if the medium is the message.

The WJC is something that was created by TSN for eyeballs. And it’s only fun for Canada fans if there team is in it, we don’t want to watch other teams on a regular basis, there is no audience.

Success of this tournament is defined by how many people watche the gold medal game, not by player development, not by character development, not by rewarding careers if life long hockey guys like Dave Cameron for a chance to make the nation proud.

This team Canada is considered a failure because we don’t have more 19 year old Team Canada hockey games to watch, no one cares about what the players learned, if they had fun, if they made life long connections that will lead to better things for hockey.

If you judge this tournament as the Swiss, Swedes and Finns do - it’s about development of players and coaches, it’s about deepening hockey roots and tradition and these young atetes experiencing something super cool and travelling to a new country into a Mecca of hockey and living a fun life for 4 weeks.

This tournament is considered a failure because TSN won’t get the eyeballs it wants, not whatever happened to the players on the ice which is the reason you do tournaments like this,

Can anyone here tell me what the U17 team did, does Team Canada even have a U17 female hockey team? Nobody knows because TSN z hasn’t had 3 decades to ingrain in you that 16-19 year olds can be failures if they let Gino Reda down (but don’t worry his facelift picked him back up)

f*** the WJC tournament gold medal. The game I watched last night was fun and the team lost, by noon today nobody will care anymore. The game was fun, I saw some super skilled players and lots of emotion, I also saw things I don’t think TSN should do like show the parents being disappointed in plays their kids made because that’s bullshit for those parents who probably want for their kids that they win but if they are real parents actually hope their kids they make friends and learn something about life and putting yourself out there from Dave Cameron, and seriously who cares, can anyone tell me what the results of the WJC tournament were 3 years ago? It’s farbrcated bullshit for a network that couldn’t afford NHL games 30 years ago and made something out of 19 years olds by feeding off of these kids and their parents, makes for good TV but it’s undignified, and honestly who f***ing cares about this, by noon today absolutely nobody besides Scott Wheeler and Arash Madani (both idiots who need to touch grass) but I’m going tabogoning today and watching the Sens tonight.

Sens Mom trip coming up to put this in perspective, these are just kids who’s parents are proud of no matter if they are the worst team or the best team in the NHL.

What do you mean nobody cares about or remembers old WJC results? You sure were quick to reference them when you told us to turn in our Sens jerseys because we weren't putting enough respect on Dave Cameron's name...

You championed a lame duck and it blew up in your face, that doesn't mean this tournament is totally meaningless now or that nobody should care lol

My old man still brings up the wild Canada vs USSR WJC matches from the late 80s every year we watch it together, so some people do pay attention and remember. It's a fun and quick tournament for national pride where we get to flex our nuts as a country a lil bit through our up-and-coming talent, and your buddy has sucked ass at his job two years running now.

No well adjusted person is going to lose sleep over this, but it is what it is and I don't blame people at all for calling a spade a spade here (ETA: When it comes to the adults managing these teams)

Let me see if I follow.

What you're saying is that the REAL treasure was all the new friends we made along the way?

The treasure for some is getting into a rage over 20 players who are 19 years old playing not their best hockey against other 19 year olds, the treasure for others is watching 19 year olds play other 19 year olds and saying “fun game” and then not caring because it doesn’t matter at all.

If your national pride is hurt or you feel it’s a sign we are in decline as a hockey nation, Ottawa had 12 000 fans show up for a game between two teams we couldn’t name a single player or coach on, the games are the reward, the hockey is the reward, not the medal

Speak for yourself, some of my fondest memories of hockey are from watching Team Canada at the WJC tournaments in the 2000's and 2010's when they put together the best team possible compared to whatever the hell they put together here. This tournament is a coming out party for a lot of hockey superstars.

Although I'm not sure how seriously I should even take your posts considering that you went from criticizing fans for being upset at the roster decisions made by management and Dave Cameron(who did prove all the haters right by having a horrendous tournament), to changing your tune and saying that this tournament doesn't matter anyways and is just popular because it's hyped up by TSN when the team shit the bed in exactly the way that the users questioning the roster decisions had predicted they would.

Disagree with most of what you said the last 2 posts.

I do agree to an extent. I’m not gonna get mad (try not to I definitely have in the past) at a bunch of kids slapping a round rubber puck at eachother. You can get mad at the people in charge tho.

Question:
If the Hitmen finish their season before the Sens, can the Sens call him up for the rest of their season?
Google says yes:

"Yes, if the WHL season ends and he isn't involved in the playoffs - and the NHL is still going - he can be recalled. I guess it depends where we are at in the standings at the time and how our D are playing, if he gets games or is more of a Black Ace and doesn't play."

I do think there was still enough talent on that team to get a medal. Poor coaching was also a big factor, but the players poor discipline on the ice can't be ignored here.

I get these are kids and half of them will not be NHLers, but holy hell...stupid penalties and constantly screaming at the refs and trying to embarrass the officials....that was garbage. And these kids do know better.

It was a fun game to watch. Canada made it interesting. But it was also filled with a lot of bad plays by the kids that landed them in the penalty box. Something we're not used to, because generally speaking we have had some pretty disciplined teams. It also isn't just about Canada, as there are a bunch of other countries developing players in this tournament. But currently our main top draft pick who should be developing on team Canada was not on the team. Let me be honest am petty in the instance of Yakemchuk and hoped that Canada would lose out early to prove a point.

It would seem the President of Hockey operations for Team Canada is taking the blame for the early exit. He deserves the blame and he should eat humble pie for the players. Quite honestly I'd watch a women's world juniors too if it was available. Women's hockey in the Olympics is some of the most exciting I've seen. More hockey is better from my perspective. But, I am also allowed to be petty as a fan, when a team doesn't choose one our our top prospects. Or literally leaves out many top prospects from other teams to create Lunch Box team.
