He's unbelievable offensively, elsewhere hes a work in progress where he gets himself into trouble with mental mistakes. Working on that over the next 2 years along with his skating is priority for him to become a big time guy.

yea but Karlsson had some wtf moments too. like he was daydreaming or something but they were almost always when the stakes were at their lowest or early on in the season. maybe yakemchuk has the same tendencies.

it's not ideal, but will be interesting to see how it develops. im not that worried about it though. guy has the hockey sense, skill, and natural confidence to be a difference maker.

Karlsson's skating was elite along with his brain

Skill for sure. Haven't seen the hockey sense yet. There were hopes the coaching change in Calgary and an improved roster would show they were unwarranted concerns because he was on a bad team trying to do too much because he had too, thus far it hasn’t made too much difference.

It's possible it's a mental thing with him. Plays engaged and alert against men but regresses back into being disinterested and lacking focus when playing against kids his own age.

Wouldn't be the first time they've fallen for that fallacy.

The mental part can't be ignored.. The attitude to get better everyday and not think you are too good for the league is important to maintain.
Lots of players think they belong in the NHL that get sent down to the AHL .. Some go down with good attitudes and some require more maintenance.
No idea where Yak is in this. As a young guy who had a really good training camp , I am sure it was disappointing for him.. I am sure getting passed over by Team Canada is as well. He has to have that get better everyday attitude to make the most of where he is.

Still laugh that I always think “ice in his veins” every-time I think of him. Heard and read that so much as a kid and teen.

Scout on SiriusXM today, said that was the biggest surprise to him on the team.

Oh yeah, him lol.

To be fair that was an off year but preseason goal scoring leaders was Sim, 8G, Vasicek 7G and Bochenski 6G. Not exactly A list players.

I like what I saw in Yakemchuck in the pre season, but looking at the players invited and their scouting reports (only really see OHL players much) I'm not surprised Yakemchuk is not there, although I still would have bet he would have been there. Canada's D looks pretty stacked, and they commonly take players that have a two year window if its close.
 
Last year of eligibility.

I do think this further expounds how not giving Yakemchuk a stint at the beginning of the year was a bad decision.
 
How did he not make the team?

His stats are good. 20 GP 9 goals 14 assists. That is a lot of goals for a defenceman.

Lots of good players don’t make the WJ team. One isn’t dependant of the other.

I’m sure he knows that Sennecke, Iginla, Greentree, etc will also be NHL players as well.

Yakemchuk not on the team is laughable. Hockey Canada can be so stupid sometimes. Another example of them thinking they are smarter then everybody.

He is and always has been a minus player, his team was up 6 nothing the other night and he was standing in front of the other teams net trying to make it 7 instead of playing his position.
It is what it is. he plays for the cookies no matter the cost

Dave Cameron said the exact same thing about Ty Boucher - “he’ll be an NHL player”

Honestly I think Yamumchuk is probably the best PP Dman available to Cameron but he roams around a lot, he is all over the offensive zone and if you have a short tourna,ent you probably want more predictable players. Yakemchuk is “the offense goes through me” player where Team Canada might be looking for something a bit more predictable and stable on the point. You see a lot of times at the WJC the “offense goes through me” players on their junior teams get to Team Canad and they struggle because they don’t get fed as much and their rhythm gets off, Team Canada likes to share the puck more and take the plays available and not focus the offense through a single player. It’s why players like Kalrsson and Chabot not win gold because if you shut them down the entire team gets shut down
 
Cameron's chance to stick it to the Sens even though it changed management. Good way to burn your bridges with the team and fans. Don't expect any favors Dave.

Chabot actually won the MVP for the tournament, and Canada won gold. So I think there is plenty of precedent for taking dynamic offensive defencemen and having it pay off. Karlsson was also very good at a young age at adjusting and playing with other high end talent.

Any great offensive defenceman is usually crafty and can adjust their game to better suit the team.
After seeing what Yakemchuk did in the pre-season I can't help but think that he would dominate the WJC.
