What are the 2 rd brought in? Would Zub be a #1 rd on other teams? Asking for Burro.

We brought in Jensen, Yakemchuk and Addison (TBD) this offseason

I'd say Zub is ~30 to 40th in terms of top RHD, so there are a few teams he'd be a top RHD on but not a majority

Our defence should not look that bad without zub.

Yes. I’m cherry picking what the defence looks like without a player. Because the point I’m making is that it looks bad simply missing 1 player.
I'll give you that our D looked asleep at the wheel the other night. But I don't think we will look too bad overall moving forward.

I actually DID cherry pick our current defence in the year 7 of the rebuild lol. I’m trying to point out what the defence looks like right now. I 100% did cherry pick the data lol. As I’m pointing out something specific.

We loose one RD and the right side looks like Jensen hamonic jbd/addison….

Sure hope jbd or Addison take a big step

The people you're mad at aren't here any longer though, so why keep beating a dead horse?

The "rebuild" has not been successful, which is why Dorion and DJ were fired. Is anybody suggesting the Dorion did an amazing job building out the D core? Or did you expect Staios to fix years of mismanagement in one summer?

His first move addressing the long-term future of the defense (drafting Yakemchuk) seems pretty promising so far, and adding Jensen gives the team a much more balanced look for this upcoming season.

I'd say our defense, right now, is on par with all of the other teams that are hoping to be in the wildcard mix (Detroit, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, etc).

I’m saying the off season wasn’t as brilliant as some seem to want to believe.

I haven't seen anyone say it was brilliant. Most I've seen say it was good and practical, and that we're better today than we were at the start or end of last season.

It's hard to argue with that.

What were you expecting, 78 point team to a Stanley Cup contending D-core and roster in one summer?

What would you have done to make this offseason brilliant?

Who are the D you would have signed or traded for and what would the salary/returns have been?

I think most believe we made a step in the right direction and understand there are limits to what can be accomplished in 1 off season. The guys brought in at the F position are easier to get, but I like the additions.

RD is much tougher, but to compensate for a shallower D pool, they brought in a Vezina winner to replace the 50th ranked goalie we had the previous season.

...and where is the cap space to pay the players? The picks and prospects to aquire said players?

thats the job of the GM. Making cap space is possible. Sens had a decent offseason. Really curious to see if we can keep Ullmark that will define a lot of this

I think we may have actually gotten worse going from Martin to green.

While Ullmark from korpisalo is a massive upgrade.

Hopefully that offsets the coaching downgrade.

Different coach. I don’t know if the massive upgrade at goalie is enough to offset the massive downgrade at coach

Green hasn't coached a game yet and you're calling him a massive downgrade?

Martin was a nice, sentimental stopgap last season. And by all accounts, did a good job making sure things didn't completely unravel. But he hadn't been a head coach in 12 years and was never going to continue in that role.

The comparison is DJ to Green, not Martin to Green. You remember DJ "didn't get the bounces" Smith, right?

Yak attack. Making a case for himself.
What a shot. He blew it past Primeau.
The first Montreal goal he made an error, however our forwards should have been along the wall. But they had blown the zone way too early. They were outside the blueline.

Chychrun has nowhere near the talent that Yakemchuk has nor the poise.

Chychrun has one extremely good asset: his shot. His shot is incredible. Otherwise his transition is average, his passing is average, his skating is good. He's not physical but a big body. He's a 2nd pairing defensemen that's offensively inclined. He's not very good defensively. He's an okay #3 with the right partner, but he's more like a #4 that should play with a very good defensive Dman who can skate. He'll never produce like he did in Arizona because he should never be your best option to QB a PP unit. He doesn't have enough outside of his shot to be that legit QB. He's a 2nd unit guy who probably gets 40-45 points a year. I would take Zub over Chychrun any day of the week.

Yakemchuk has forward hands and vision. They're not in the same stratosphere. Once Yak improves his acceleration a little bit and fills out his frame he will be a problem for the NHL. We're looking at a guy who legitimately has the chance to be a consistent 70 pts defensemen. He's that good.

Chychrun was overrated since day 1.

Not necessarily.

Chychrun himself was getting top 10 considerations in his draft year.

Plenty of Dmen taken top 10 have nowhere near the talent that Yakemchuk has.

he still went 16th overall.

The expectation for guys like Sanderson and Yakemchuk are def higher cause they were high picks especially in what are supposed to be good drafts
