My belief right now is that SKA will make sure he doesn’t leave with any KHL record of any kind. SKA can cook his stats the way they want.
Agreed. They'll play him 6-8 minutes a game with scrubs to make sure he can't actually produce, which will neither seriously hurt or help the team, but their treatment of him will serve as a very powerful threat to the other young players in the SKA system; Play ball, or we'll make sure you're miserable.

Dude had 1 assist in his last 10 games? Ishh
Put yourself at his place. The guy has no ice time, no PP, plays on a bottom line with scrubs. And on top of that, has to deal with a coach that hates him.

I don't blame the KHL teams too much for doing what they do

Imagine if we knew Slafkovsky was leaving after this season to go play in another league and we were going to lose him for nothing. I wouldn't care too much about his development from that point onwards, and I would prioritize developing players that are going to stay long term.

Hopefully we see his ice time increase in the KHL playoffs when SKA actually cares about icing the best lineup, they are a lock for the playoffs regardless of what they do with Demidov during the regular season.

Maybe someone can help because I just broke chatGPT with this question…
Name a healthy NHL skater, that’s not an enforcer or in a pending transaction that played 0:00 TOI?
I’m sure it happens it’s just a really hard stat to come by.

Your question broke my brain too ;)

I think you meant an nhl player dressed but with TOI 0:00?
Yes. He needs to be on the game’s official lineup. Basically he sits on the bench instead of in the stands. And it officially counts as a game played.

It's not even about development. Demidov would be one of the best forwards in the KHL if given top 6 ice time. SKA is a better team with Demidov in the top 6 than with Demidov in the bottom 6. It would be like the habs giving 4th line minutes to Laine next season because he refuses to sign an extension.

Don't worry Demidov, we have Laine and Hutson who will play with you next year !!
Actually, there's a serious issue here. You need players with the computer interface to understand what players like Hutson and Demidov can create in order to benefit from all that can happen when they are out on the ice.

IMO, Montreal is not all that badly off with Hutson, Demidov, Suzuki, Slafkovsky, Caufield and Laine who can all process the game at a pretty high level.

At full confidence, so can Dach. Roy, unassumingly, is another such player.

Adding yet another such player at the 2025 draft will start making things all that more interesting for the top-9, never mind the top-6.

I have high hope for Michael Hage, I think he can be in the same level of Suzuki and Caufield. He have amazing skillset and great attitude. With his father lost and huge MTL fan, he will give everything on ice for that!

In nhl he won’t dress

The KHL has a 'designated junior' rule whereby teams have the option to dress two extra junior players on top of the normal roster.

So KHL teams can dress 22 players/game, as opposed to the NHL's 20. This is why it’s not uncommon for some players to sit on the bench all game.

What makes Demidov so special in this regard?
SKA’s leading scorer among forwards last year (Tolchinsky) is currently getting even less TOI than Demidov.
The entire situation is batshit insane.

These over-the-top conspiracy theories are hilarious.
If Rotenberg's #1 objective is to punish Demidov, on no planet would he have been chosen for the National Team.

Truth is - Rotenberg is merely an overcompensating clown. The more criticism he gets, the more he pushes back just to prove his point.

SKA versus Dynamo Moscow - December 5th, 11:30 AM

CONGRATULATIONS IVAN DEMIDOV

  • Cracks the Russian roster for the vaunted Channel One Cup

Basically, representatives from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and the rest of the world compete to win the tournament. It’s a popular event in Russia.
And Ivan Demidov has managed to break into the Russian line-up, despite his young age.

  • Arseny Gritsyuk, SKA teammate and now coincidentally Russia 25 teammate for the Channel One Cup has this to say on Demidov:

« He dominates defensemen in practice and feels very confident. »

ALL FORWARDS:

Yeah the agenda is the worse his KHL stats look, the easier it is to claim that the KHL is a strong league when he goes to the NHL and has superstar numbers.
