He is 19yo and a rookie D learning the speed, gaps, etc. He it going to make mistakes like all D. To expect perfection instead of development at this stage is getting f***ing annoying.

What is this absolutest one or the other crap?

"Expect perfection..." nonsense. No one expects perfection, just development.

He has games where he's more "on" than others, the goal is to increase his awareness to where his instincts limit his unforced errors thereby DEVELOPING his all around game. He makes a lot of gaffes where he has the time and space to make better decisions. If he was making errors under pressure against a great team that'd be different. Everyone talked about this stuff when he was drafted and he's still got a ways to clean some things up, unforced errors burn you far harder in the NHL than at lower levels. It's not even a criticism per se, it's just a fair observation.

You don't like reality, don't read the thread.

And I, like everyone else, see a high reward type player. But the "risk" part is still raw.

What if told you AL makes this play into a 2 on 1 the other way.

Dude stands at the blue line, pure disrespect “this dude can’t walk me, and if he does I have help”.

Then from flat footed he beats 2 back checkers by three strides joining the rush.

For reference.

I was not meaning that directly at you. He will make mistakes as he learns. He is 19. I don’t expect him up for at least one more year so he will be fine. I like his progress. I give him a lot slack as he is so raw so I may be in the minority. And, I like his personality.

Sorry, thought you did. I just call the games/periods I watch tit for tat.

His gamesmanship and top end play has improved as the season has gone on.

It's a thing, you don't want to just focus on a prospect's flaws but sometimes those things are the big difference makers because the player has an NHL floor right off the bat without a certain flaw.

It was the right pick regardless. Last year was a top end loaded D draft. The Hawks had their choice of the best of the bunch. Decided it was Lev and that they valued him a hair over sublime offensive talent Demidov

If he doesn’t pan out it is what it is. But he definitely is on that Seider/Mcavoy path like projected. Hell Bouchard and Dobson still make some of these mistakes that people are harping on.

He’s never gonna be what Keith was. He’s a different kind of D man. The flashes of brilliance are obvious

High, yes. Face, no.

Edit: Fensore gave Lev a slash just before Lev laid the lumber on him.

I love his body language after he does it.

He seizes up like "Did I do that?".

Loving Lev's tenacity and hope he finds more consistency with it as he continues to evolve.

Oh crap I forgot about him. Oops.

But they did pretty much punt every pick after Lardis.
So they drafted what will likely be 4 NHLers in the draft and you’re complaining?

I think a lot assume that Levshunov is bad defensively, but he really isn’t. He’s a bit of a loose cannon and loves humping up in the play. But when he actually puts his head down to play defense, he’s not easily moved and knows exactly where to be.

So I guess the prominent thing with him is again, focus.
Levshunov has gone into a higher league 3 years in a row and has excelled each time with a bit of a learning curve.

Kid is an absolute cheat code at 19 doing this. And his goals... 3rd in shots in the league. Not amongst rookies. The whole damn league.
Is the McAvoy comparison too... conservative?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is saying he's actually been better defensively than offensively in Rockford? Because if so, that's very impressive.

As I keep saying, while I loved Demidov, has the higher upside from a team building stand point. If Lev becomes a true 1 and RH, that is so so hard to find. Demidov was the safer pick as high end forward is much easier to proje t vs a D man. But man if Lev hit his top end potential, good lord with all the other d we have.

I was a broken record in the draft chats for 4 solid months. Demidov was the SAFE pick. Levshunov was the RISKY pick. At some point you have to find that 1 D. There will be a lot of funerals along the way burying hopes that guys are 1D. Vlasic, Korchinski, for example are trending to being great! This is not a bash Korchinski or Vlasic post... but they will not be 1D. Because there are like 15 1D in the NHL and like 5 of them are RHD. Just look at my troll job in the Seth Jones thread... it's like... an argument that he might be a top 10 RHD in the NHL.

Like picking a QB in RD1 of a Fantasy Football draft when you go wing... guy might throw for 5k yards but the value above replacement sucks.

Last year the 32nd best RHD (on average the worst #1RHD) by points was Cody Ceci, Will Borgen, and John Marino, 32nd best RW was Quentin Byfield.
