Prospect Info: 2024 2nd Overall - Artyom Levshunov

Lazerus comes off very whiny. He has also fallen off the rails in the political loophole that is 'X' now. All he does is post people saying negative things about Hawks players and how they are wrong or his hatred for a political party. It's always something negative

I think Laz would rather be covering politics for the NYT or WaPo but has been told he's where he belongs.

Laz is a stroke

Laz is a herb.

The wild's system being above the Hawks is pretty crazy to me. Even the Sharks. Luca Cagnoni is the 5th best prospect in San Jose's system -- with Wheeler keeping Smith ranked, so realistically he's 4th -- and I don't think the kid is ever going to be a high-impact player in the NHL. How many 5'9" D in the NHL are long-term, top-end players? Maybe he carves out a role as a PP specialist in sheltered minutes but is that what you want from your 4th best prospect?

Will Smith being on their list despite him being up the entire season ruins the list. Allan and Crevier have played less in the NHL this season, but aren't ranked for the Hawks.

Agree with you on Cagnoni. Small defenseman that are actually assets to an NHL team are still relatively rare. They don't generally turn into Quinn Hughes or Lane Hutson.

Hawks are weak up front, but Sharks are shit on the backend. Again, Cagnoni hitting is unlikely. But there seems to be this feeling amongst many that Sam Dickinson is trending towards being a #1D because he's had a good season in the CHL. Who cares? He had a mediocre U20 performance and a defender putting up points in the CHL in their D+1 season doesn't mean a whole lot. Korchinski did that, struggled in the NHL a year after, and is now (according to Wheeler) on his way to being a #3D in the NHL.

Not to mention their right side D is barren and probably will continue to be after this year's draft because they aren't using their 1st on a righty D and there is a noticeable drop off after the first 20 or so picks (their 2nd 1st, Dallas' pick, will be a late 1st).

That team is sort of the opposite of the Hawks, outside of landing a 1C with a 1st overall pick. Where our farm/young guys are awful up front, our future D is stacked. Their forwards of the future are already mostly there, but a lot has to happen for them before they have a legit NHL D core. Goaltending wise, they win because of Askarov.

Crevier has 47 games over 2 seasons and honestly he wouldn't be in my top-15 even if he were deemed eligible. Wheeler's never been a fan of Allan bc he doesn't bring any offense. That's fair enough. Allan likely peaks in the NHL as a reliable mid-pairing guy, and that's fine.

Allan and Crevier would likely be in my top 15, just for the fact they look like NHLers, albeit not difference makers.

Seems like everyone on both the Hawks list and the Sharks list, outside the top 4 or5 players on each, are projected to be middling NHLers anyways (bottom 6/bottom pairing). At least with those two, there's a higher likelihood of achieving that because they are almost there already IMO.

I like our prospect pool, I’ll put it up against anyone else’s. If we aren’t #1 we’re definitely at least top 5, and with plenty more to be added in the upcoming draft. We’re gonna be as stacked as anyone.

imagine where it will be if we add Misa and McKenna and some of these midround forwards like Lardis hit, plus all the d prospects, we'll be in a good spot, just hoping they don't pull the plug on the tank too soon, they need to get a couple more blue chip forwards at the top of the draft to go with Bedard and Nazar, could be a really fun team by 2026, get the coach right and its go time

Really want to be as optimistic as possible but everytime I watch his tape his decision making seems really poor, and his positioning is often pretty bad as a consequence. Very nice with the puck on his stick though. Needs to work on alot of kinks fortunately pretty much all of them are mental mistakes.

The pick makes sense when you factor in how well the organization has been at drafting and developing dmen in recent years.

You aren’t wrong about his flaws, BUT he’s gotten a lot better at those things now compared to October/November.

And I think your last paragraph is spot on. This kid will take time, and I think two full years in the AHL under the Hawks development team is ideal.

Honestly I think our pool should be better considering the volume of picks we’ve had.. I still like a decent amount of the guys but I still think they’ve done a below average job managing their assets and an average job drafting.

Also yeah I think we should have taken Demidov because I think he’s going to be the better player. They were clearly torn too because they tried to get both and probably had the same exact position arguments being had now.

Dominant RD are way harder to get. I still think he wasn’t BPA and they used position to prop up their own internal value. Only time will tell, I think Levshunov will play but how good? I’m not sure there’s a 1D in there. He’s improved a lot this year but the offense isn’t dynamic and the consistency on compete is better but not fixed.

We could have had Demidov and easily traded up for Buium, and I would have gone bananas. What’s done is done, have to hope Lev is the best of the bunch.

MTL posted a video of draft day and they included the CHI offer as footage, Hawks probably get that pick to select one of the defenseman left if they had gone Demidov at 2, but then they're out on a top 4 pick this year so which one is more valuable, but like you said what is done is done

they've thrown around 2nds to move up like candy, I get you have favorites but, in all honesty, the extra picks probably are worth more given they're doing it to move up a few slots usually...if anything more lotto tickets are better, base rates don't change much moving up from say 21 to 18 on average

I agree for the most part, I think Lev could be a solid #2 if he figures some things out. If we can get Misa, I think he could be the dynamic forward, some of us wanted in Demidov.

You could be right. BUT….regardless it’s still a strong pool compared to most, even if we’ve made wrong decisions along the way I’m willing to bank on the positives/upside and I’ll remain confident until I see how Lev, our 1st selection in 2025 and first selection in 2026 all perform and where our team is by then.

Your pool can always be better with some hindsight. They have only gone off the board with Korchinski, Gajan, Kantserov, Rinzel picks. 2/4 of those might be home runs and the other a double. They took the true BPA with Oliver Moore and Frank Nazar, if they don't work our you shrug your shoulders.

And before I get bombarded, no Levshunov was not a reach at 2. He was BPA or BPA2.

It’s kind of crazy how one comment can completely derail a thread. One comment says Lev looks like crap, and this shit starts again. I thought he looked really good yesterday, and I find myself disagreeing a lot with these types of posters. I think some just want to bitch for the sake of it.

Same thing happened with Del Mastro. I and a few others were hyping him up last year. One poster says, nah he sucks. And then everyone just ran with it. Feels good that I’m being proven right and Del Mastro does in fact look good. Not worried about Lev in the slightest.

We as Hawks fans collectively have no clue what a drafted and developed elite defenseman look like. Hazed Seabs and Keith on the way up too and that was 20 years ago. Everyone showing their a$$ in this process. He is goofy, does goofy things, but people just choosing to ignore his skating/size combo and the fact he's leading AHL in D shots like 6 years younger than avg AHL player (not even fulltime PP/sharing duties with Korch)
