Belarus -> USHL -> NCAA -> AHL is one hell of a ride.
Rare for sure.Belarus -> USHL -> NCAA -> AHL is one hell of a ride.

Oh, it will happen. We have a few unhinged posters who relentlessly attack guys that aren't "their pick".I do hope people don’t pile on and dislike the kid because they didn’t pick Demidov. I think he will be a great addition to our blue line prospects which we have many of and some are pretty good too. I understand critiquing him but let the kid grow and learn. Him being our #1 RHD (and being a good one) is what we should all be hoping for. And, his personal story makes me want it more for him to be successful considering what he has gone through.

Boisvert on the other hand I wish the mods didn’t give him a peepee slap and remove his unhinged posts on the thread for him. They genuinely brought a smile to my face
I’d be fine with NCAA, I’d be fine with AHL. NHL is a no no for me
Full AHL season followed by a Calder run would be perfect.
My one (and only) concern with the AHL route is the temptation to call him up if he’s doing well in Rockford.
KD isn’t Bowman, so hopefully he stays true to his philosophy.
As someone who was a massive Demidov fanboy, it's clear as day why they made the pick. High end tools, high end production, lots of development runway. They're betting that a kid who went from Belarusian juniors to the Big Ten in two years (and, let's be real, looked great in the process) will be able to put the finer points of his game together with more stability, more time in a system, and more time in the weight room. I think it's a pretty good bet even if it isn't the pick I was hoping for.
It's hard to make an apples to apples comparison with kids who have spent their whole lives in high level development systems so I get why some people would have been more comfortable with Buium, Silayev, etc but calling this a bad pick is premature.
I mean, the Hawks called guys up under Bowman that weren't even doing that well in Rockford. If Levshunov is playing consistently well in Rockford, he should be rewarded if an opportunity presents itself. And realistically, if the Hawks do have him in Rockford next year, it's incredibly likely he will see NHL time at some point, even if it's just at the end of the season.
For the love of God, don’t go read the Sasha Boivert thread…Habs fan lurker here. Really love the way you guys welcome this guy even though he might not have been your first choice. You could teach a lot of us Habs fans a thing or two (see Reinbacher pick ughh). Might not have been the sexiest pick but you build winning teams around guys like this, wishing the best to all of you.
He has no choice. He has to play in the AHL or NHL now. Once his ELC is signed, he's a pro, and no longer eligible for amateur(NCAA) hockey.Signed his 3 year ELC. Means Rockford bound i bet.
A CHL team could pick up his rights and he could be assigned there potentially as well. Happens from time to time. Chaz Lucius recently. He has no choice. He has to play in the AHL or NHL now. Once his ELC is signed, he's a pro, and no longer eligible for amateur(NCAA) hockey.
I think that's not an option because Russian and Belarussian players aren't allowed in the CHL right now.A CHL team could pick up his rights and he could be assigned there potentially as well. Happens from time to time. Chaz Lucius recently.
I think that restriction lifts next seasonI think that's not an option because Russian and Belarussian players aren't allowed in the CHL right now.
If you read articles, he would have gone to CHL over NCAA if he was allowed to.
I mean why would the Hawks sign the guy to play him in a lesser league?A CHL team could pick up his rights and he could be assigned there potentially as well. Happens from time to time. Chaz Lucius recently.
