Just an odd note, did anyone notice that every player on the u17s has the same buzz cut haircut

Yes, lol, reminds me of my younger brothers team after they all gave eachother terrible haircuts. They had to go to school looking like they were attacked by Edward scissor hands, and after a week, all buzzed it off.

Berchild continues to lead the team with 12 points (7+5) in 10 games. Hurlbert might be starting to get going a little. Had 2+0 last night. Their early USHL results have been pretty okay.

Everyone was hoping the 08s would be a proper roster that was void of nepotism and the buddy system. Seemed like we would get our way until the actually u17s started playing games and disappointed us

Another weak year. Considering they blew up some of the team for USHL replacements they should consider doing it again. Or maybe it's just a weak year overall but I can think of 2 players in the north east who might do better there.

That game vs Czechia was insane, what a finish. The NTDP didn’t look very good overall but clutch goals by Berchild saves them. He looked pretty solid. Reminds me of Cole Perfetti with the way he skates. Hurlbert hasn’t impressed me at all this tournmanet. I’ve liked Cullen, he’s slick and very skilled but a bit too slight right now. Too much on the perimeter. Shreier (sp?) and Kemps seem like the best D by a considerable margin. Haven’t minded Beuker as well.

Sadly the 08s are an even weaker group than the 07s.

Early impression from this team is pretty good. Better than I was expecting. They aren't a vintage NTDP year, but we knew that would be the case some time ago. The best age groups at the NTDP seem to be hyped up a lot coming in, and this group didn't have any of that.

A lot of the interesting players are either raw tools players or not very projectable. So we're working with a lot of the extremes, which is probably why on the whole this team will probably not end up with a top 10 pick. It's possible with a few of them, but odds are probably slightly against it when you add it up.

I think the defense is weak. It's not terrible, but only like 3-5 players of any potential. A number of the defensemen on the back half of the team are like undraftable or only draftable because they're "big and tough and bad at hockey" archetypes. The forwards have a lot of small skill forwards that don't skate that well. I wonder if they felt they needed to overcorrect after the 2007's have too much size and grit and not enough offense.

Draft ranges:

1st rounders: Nelson (5-25), Berchild (10-30), Hurlbert (15-45), Schairer (5-25), Kemps (5-35)
2nd rounders: Plante, Mutryn, Zajic
3rd rounders: Barnett, Glance, Martyniuk
4-7: Beuker, Francisco, Cullen
Not draftable: Carrithers, Wathier, Lutner, Marthaler, Garcia, Stuart

If Trottier is still part of the team, he could be like a 2nd or 3rd rounder (probably 3rd). Didn't see the other two goaltenders, but Carrithers plays the majority of the minutes and isn't that good, so chances aren't good for the other two if they can't outplay him.

Nelson, Berchild, and Kemps look like real candidates to be promoted to the 18's for the second half of the season. Schairer could also be a candidate if he can iron out his faults. Hurlbert wouldn't shock me either.

Thoughts on Tyler Martyniuk? Feel like no one is talking about him since he has no commitment and is a late birthday.

3rd-5th highest potential defenseman on the team. Not the same league as Schairer and Kemps, but after that if things go well he could be next best. Has more upside than guys like Francisco and Barnett, but they are currently better and more productive hockey players.
