2024/25 Trade Rumours, Speculation etc Thread

No one has really talked much about KC but he was absolutely awful again this year in the playoffs. Yes he can put the puck in the net but i am not sure if it is enough to make up for the rest of his game. Teams that win in the playoffs have their top players step up and play out of their comfort zones. KC was playing scared really struggling to make simple plays losing way too many battles or just avoiding them all together.
We need to compliment our line up better. Scheif and Connor need some grit and speed on the wing especially for the playoffs. We need to start building a playoff team. Guys I would consider moving to find the right pieces.

-Valardi
-Neiderreiter
-Heinola
-Schenn

-Appleton has to go

From a value stand point you have to sign Ehlers I am ok with moving on from him but not for nothing.

I don't think KC was as awful as you're saying. He was less of a factor vs dallas for sure though compared to STL.
Vilardi was good with them this past year, they had their best performance at 5v5 goal differential when usually Connor and Scheifele (without Ehlers) are mostly straddling the even or negative line. however Vilardis playoff performance was v poor.
I do agree with your overall sentiment, the Jets can use some size and a physical scorer in their top 6. The 3rd line is essentially another 2nd line and they really needed an upgrade too.

Samberg or Perfetti

Yeah I think both get extended long term. Also think Vilardi will get extended long term despite some of the critics and his back issues. There’s an argument to make to keep him too, 25y/o entering his prime, etc. But yeah, for jersey purchasing, samberg & Perfetti are the safest bets from those 4 players (ehlers, Vilardi, samberg, Perfetti).

My guess is they keep/extend Vilardi. I agree Appleton has to go and I agree that the rest of the players you listed are expendable. I really hope they keep ehlers. I think the big knock against him was his playoff numbers, and this year he produced big time when he came back - to me, that question mark is now gone and I hope they try to keep him.

I agree with keeping Ehlers, very strongly, but I doubt Chevy will pay him his true value, which is in the $ 9 to $ 10 million mark.

I noticed the Board here is very divided on the Ehlers issue,(50/50) and his value ? but he’s a talented player, which we really need.

I’d say there’s about a 50 - 50 split on here, on whether he’s worth the big money, but I think he is.

I will venture to say, if Ehlers does not resign with the Jets, he will get a minimum of $ 9 mil per year, and likely more from some team.

We will then find out what his true market value is ?

1. Sign Ehlers
2. Sign Zoidberg
3. Trade Gabe, maybe for an underperforming center prospect who could use a fresh start.
4. Let Tanev walk and Appleton slink out.
5. Bring up some young guns and live with the growing pains.
6. Trade Schenn, keep Stan but don't play him unless necessary. Test Demelo for mono.
7. Win the cup.

Right on the money with this post.

Don't think Schenn will be back, can't see him uprooting his family for 1 season, they got it right when they let Apples go to Seattle got it wrong when they brought him back. Might be some drama in the Vilardi camp about Winnipeg but at the right price and healthy he helps the team. Tanev probably walks as does Fleury. Biggest piece is Nik everything this offseason hinges on him, if he walks it's a big time fail in that we get nothing for him apart from the years he played here. Lets see what Chevy's prospects can do. It might be early but the team needs to see if there is any way KFC extends early but I think I already know the answer to that one.

Schenn has another year left on his current contract.

When is the last time we signed a top 6f/4d pending UFA to a contract right before free agency? Only one I can think of is DeMelo. So I really don't have much confidence in us bringing back Ehlers.

I don't blame Ehlers for wanting a different opportunity. Personally I don't think money is the issue I think the relationship damage has been there for awhile. Him being put on PP2 forever by Maurice and also him playing less than 16 minutes a game under the Bowness/Arniel regime.

I wish the Jets let Lowry and Ehlers play together more.

Connor is literally 2nd in points in the playoffs and had 6 more points than the next highest Jet. Vilardi tho was definitely a disappointment. The entire 4th line didn't contribute much. They weren't bad, but if they could've chipped in offensively a bit would have helped a lot.

Ehlers, Lowry and a winger with a little more offensive upside would be nice. Maybe Chibrikov can be that guy. I wonder if Lambert can be a defensively aware guy; should spend a couple months in the gym.

Appreciate the point, but strongly disagree. Connor's transition ability, nobody on the team comes even close to that. No he is not a player that's going out there to work the boards behind the net.

I thought he had a great playoff in creating changes, and initiating zone time for the Jets. It's the exact same reason you try to keep Ehlers, while remembering the cap goes up considerably the next few years. That transition talent, without just dumping the puck, or neanderthal north/south hockey - is the hardest thing to find.

Lowry is going to be another year older and has never shown much offense. I don't really think it's all that realistic to expect himnto be able to take on an even larger role at his age.

The team needs to be looking for a long term solution for center at line 2 and not another stop gap.

I think if they re-sign Ehlers, they just run it back. And I wouldn't blame them.

Only qualifier is if they don't think Vilardi will extend long term here, maybe they move him before the draft. Maybe with Ville Heinola for Fabian Zetterlund and Stephen Halliday?

Well they just signed their stopgap for another two years, so don't hold your breath this offseason.

Funny thing this board turns on KFC and Ehlers fairly regularly.
One area Cheveldayoff excels at is cap management.
I think Ehlers is a must have.
I won’t speculate on the # because I have no clue what gets it done.
I simply hope Ehlers remains a Jet
Hoping he’s feeling there’s unfinished business with this group. He truly seems to love the fans as well. If there’s a want to come back, I believe it will get done.

I think perhaps its not been discussed much because your main premise is essentially false?

Chevy doesnt trade unless his hand is forced...

Im hoping for
Csv
Barron-perfetti-ehlers
Chib-lowry-iafallo
Nino-names-lambert

Jomo-dd
Samberg-pionk
Fleury-schenn

Helle-bross

Give salo a run with jomo
Give perfetti 40 games at C
Lambert a season to learn 200'

Personally id take a flyer on Ryan Donato as a ufa
Provorov would be a good signing
