There could be 8-10 teams interested in him if he goes the distance to July 1 for sure.
If he does leave, Lambert does seem like the natural guy to get first shot on that line.
We could also afford to bring back whoever we choose from Pionk, Iafallo, Appleton and Tanev with no issue giving out big long term RFA extensions
Tough choices this summer. Signing Ehlers blocks Lambert. Signing Iafallo and Appleton blocks Chibrikov. Signing Pionk blocks Salomonsson.
I'd prefer to keep the most impactful players and trade a prospect if their path gets stonewalled. But some of this is out of our control. Will see how it goes.

If Lambert isn't playing in the top six, I do not see a role he is better suited for than Chibrikov on our team. Sign Ehlers and all our top six wing spots are accounted for. I'm surprised that's the one I'm being questioned on to be honest.
The Jets have had a similar template over years and years. Top line, tough matchups defensive line, sheltered scoring line, 4th line with grit and PK ability. If the sheltered scoring line wing slots are all filled, I don't see where Lambert fits in.
Lambo plays on the Jets next year whether Ehlers extends or not.

if we let all the ufas walk and take a step back we prob lose samberg and connor...
agreed. from folks i've talked to or read on here, it seems like Chibrikov has more of the 4-line versatility compared to the other higher-ranked Fwd prospects. not sure how much others agree, but i think given that assumption, he has more of a chance to be on the team next year since there's more chance of bottom-6 openings than top-6.
i think the Jets will re-sign Ehlers, and Perfett + Vilardi are under team control. I think all will sign minimum of 5 year deals. That's 3 top-6 wing spots locked up longer term, with KC a UFA the following year.
Namestnikov does have the 4-line versatility too. and it's not like he has a big $$$ so easier to stomach a 3m player playing bottom-6 as opposed to a 6m/year player.... but not sure how much appetite there is to move him from 2C for a prospect.

i agree. so all the top-6 Wing spots are locked up for a while. how many of the higher ranked fwd prospects have bottom-6 transferable games/attributes?
I don’t think it’s possible for us to fall that low with Helle, honestly.

if Ehlers re-signs, I’d hope to see something like this eventually. I think Lambert could be more sheltered playing with Iafallo and Lowry, who could make some space for Lambert as he develops in a Perfetti-like role early on. Then, hopefully Perfetti/Lambert can eventually transition to 2C.
I envision that 4th line also being a pain to play against and chipping in some more offense.

This is what I see as the likeliest line up…a line of Nino Lowry Lambert could be very interesting.
I still think we need to replace Names at 2C

Another foolish post... jets have ridiculous cap space to even suggest they would allow everyone to walk when they have helly in his prime is asinine.... however I do think some of the young guns need a chance to be regulars in the NHL.. i don't envision ehlers walking.. pionk on the other hand is disposal and easily replaced by salmonson... we can leave some cap open for future ufas... but jets have a solid core and are finally starting to gel breaking up the core now would be shortsighted.... ehlers connor schief Morrissey helly can make this group a stanley cup contender for years down the road... add veteran like toews and bump lamber for Appleton and chib for iaffalo and resign tanev

You make it sound like the players don't get a say. If they want out, there's nothing anyone can do
If they're open to staying, Chevy will work with them to come up with deals that are fair to everyone. That's what he does
There's no indication that anyone wants to leave peg.. Chevy is savvy letting ehlers walk is not even option at this point... unless another team offers him over 9 milli a year he'll stay put... jets have lots of cap space and can easily retain him
Don't overlook the fact he's been part of this organization his entire pro career.. he's not going to uproot his family especially when he's in such a solid situation here... if he does walk we have enough cap space to scoop up another solid ufa and 7 - 8 range to replace him...

Considering that nobody has signed an extension, there isn't much evidence either way (aside from AI saying he'd like to stay)

I just don't not see how Lambert fits in the bottom six the way the Jets structure their lines, while they are a contender.
If they see a future for him as a PKer I would change my tune. But I don't think he is seen as a refined two way player to shut down opposition top lines.
I could be wrong for sure. I just don't see how he sticks if he is not playing with top six players. The club wants a square peg for those spots in the lineup, and he is a round hole.
Lambert hasn't been a part of the Moose PK. So doubtful they see him as one in the near term.
I guess it depends on if they elect to move Cole back into the middle. If they do then a wing spot opens up but my guess is they'd want someone with size to play on one of his wings if they do which Lambert doesn't fit.

Yup totally agree.
It's nothing against Lambert. It's just that the Jets don't bend over backwards to force prospects ice time at the NHL level. And they have specific roles for lines to play.
I just dont see how he fits in a Jets bottom six. And on top of that maybe Chibrikov is better at the top six NHL level too? He probably has a more pro style.
Lambert has developed really really well since he spent time in the dub. Still a tough hill to climb though.

Maybe as a reserve. I think Chibrikov is ahead of him development wise.
The Jets got a slide year on Lambert's ELC so he's only going into year 2. I think they'd want him to fill out a bit, keep the speed but be able to score greasy goals in the NHL.
Not sure he's ready yet. I think he's definitely competing with Chibrikov next season for a spot, Ehlers spot. Because the Jets aren't going to spend some $22-$24 million in Cap space on 2 wingers, imo, with Perfetti still to sign long term. Perhaps Gabe as well.
They'll re-sign Iafallo probably. I think he's solidified his role on the top PK, fits around the lineup on any line. That's valuable. I think they keep Barron, Namestnikov and Connor in those PK roles. Maybe Appleton, Kupari, Gus, and Ford down the line. Tanev will be interesting. He's going to get a pay cut, I'd think. But he's a great energy player. Might be worth keeping him over Kupari.
Guys like Yager and Julien will be guys who start with the PK reps on the Moose next year. Maybe Wagner and Zhilkin get them too, if there is a coaching change.
Prospects like Lambert and Barlow I think the Jets would like to see them be effective top 6 players and they'll be given the time to develop. Definitely having a finisher like Barlow could help Lambo become a better PP player,
With the amount of young forwards coming up the ranks tha you'd like to see graduate, there should be a lot more competition next year, and the year after. To get better take the next step.
I think you can spend more on wingers if you don't have a 2c. Also, you save money by replacing bottom 6 players like Iafallo with cheaper options not top 6 guys like Ehlers.
