2024/25 Trade Rumours, Speculation etc Thread

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I think he's missing 2 things: size and speed. Speed is the biggest factor as i also think that's why Vilardi never got a shot at C.

The centre position is so demanding in teams of battle and real estate to cover.

I may have agreed last year but he wins his battles and according to edge he covers a lot of ice this year. I don't have concerns about him being able to cover the position.

Big contract for chychrun, 8*9m. Similar ATOI to Pionk, with Pionk a bit below last 3 years PPG (0.6 vs 0.45) and contract year ppg (0.66 vs 0.56).

Was reading an article on some obscure site from June or July of last year that said Ehlers had no intention in extending in WPG and was planning on testing the market this offseason.
Can only one confirm this or is it just click bait crap

You'll only get the answer out of Ehlers or Chevy's mouth. And neither have said much, so you have to read between the lines.

RE: Ehlers from a month ago.

“There’s not much to say,” Ehlers said. “I have the same answer I had in training camp. Right now it’s about winning the Stanley Cup this year, and digging in. Focusing. I understand a lot of people have questions. But if I start thinking about that too much I’ll start getting away from the hockey part of it.”

Putting it in the back of his mind, he said, isn’t all that hard.

“Not for me. But I understand you guys have a lot of questions that you obviously want answered, and I wish I could.”

“I’m so focused on being the best version of myself out on the ice right now,” he continued. “And playing the best I can to help these guys get to where we all want to be. Where we’ve wanted to be (for) 10 years now.”

Leah Hextall made a comment during an interview back in the fall that Ehlers would not be signing with the Jets. The vibe was very..."Ha ha ha...no. THAT is NOT happening!"

While I don't think he gets Chychrun cash, his market value will still be a lot more then what most people on here are predicting. We are looking at $7.75 to $8 million for him.
I’d be comfortable with 7yrs at 7.5m. To me that sounds acceptable… though if he drops back to his norm after this season, which I fully expect, it’ll be to high for to long, but with the cap going up for the next 3 years in a row, it wouldn’t be to high for long…though it would still be to long

Nobody knows for sure what the cap is going to do for the next 3 years. Many think we are headed for a recession.

Yeah, all those projections were done prior to the events of the last few months. I doubt they are still accurate, but until they revise them my guess is agents will be using them as the basis for their arguments.
Would they just use a percentage of the cap? That way if the cap goes up or stays the same Ehlers still gets 5%?

Guaranteed that the 4 Nations made the owners money, probably created some new fans. Expansion might cover the costs of defecit, and you get some heavy hitting corporations from Atlanta and Houston invested they might cover the costs of a falling a Canadian dollar.

I'm hoping it's only 7 million for him and 6 for Samberg but I suspect agents are going to take a cut out of the 4 Nations success/rising Cap. Josh isn't going to be bothered if the Jets invest in their defense, because he needs support, and Salomonsson's development would preferably go one rung at a time. Vilardi negotiations are going to be interesting. If he takes the one year arbitration it's the same road as Dubois.

Still don't know what the cap is for sure going to do.
All we need is another 2 teams to water down the talent level even more...

Michael Phelps certainly ain't crying about money.

You are right, and he is a US citizen, and literally one of the absolute best in the history of swimming. One of the best that ever was eg, in the same league as Maradona, Wayne Gretzky, Mohammed Ali. A household name - and by no means an average representative of the sport. His is an exceptional example.

+++++++++

Whats my point? Canadian swimmers (even the best Olympians and World champions) more often than not live an obscure life, even those who hold current national and international records. Other than Summer McIntosh or perhaps Penny Oleksiak, I bet you can't name 5 more Canadian swimming superstars without googling them. If one happens *not* to be Mike Phelps, its not a sport where one goes to seek rich endorsements.

Bottom line, you can't honestly accuse parents of swimmers as those looking to mooch off their kids "swimming" incomes. There is literally no income for swimmers who go beyond scholarships obtained in University, other than being carded by Swim Canada - that gets them free training in National centres of excellence and a very modest income. 99% of Swim Parents wind up waaaaaay in the hole fiscally. Ask me how I know. :)

But, 2X per day practices through their teen years keeps them out of trouble. So, I call it a wash.:laugh::laugh:

It’s also a great sport for building discipline.
