2024/25 Trade Rumours, Speculation etc Thread

I don't think he was on the trade block at the deadline.

Blues are going to make the playoffs, imo. Schenn vs. Schenn. Hellebuyck vs Binnington, Rd. 3.

If the Jets torch the Blues I could see them going younger, building on their younger core.

If the Blues win, well fawk idk.

Friedman indicated that the price was very steep and that he indicated he wouldn't wave for certain teams.

So take it for what it's worth.

Upcoming UFA top 6 Cs…
John Tavares, 34 yr old, 6’1, 211 lb, LHS, John Tavares | 7yrs x 11.000M (TOR)
Brock Nelson, 33 yr old, 6’4, 210 lb, LHS, Brock Nelson | 6yrs x 6.000M (COL)
Claude Giroux, 37 yr old, 5’11, 188 lb, RHS, Claude Giroux | 3yrs x 6.500M (OTT)
Sam Bennett, 28 yr old, 6’1, 195 lb, LHS, Sam Bennett | 4yrs x 4.425M (FLA)
Mikael Granlund, 33 yr old, 5’10, 185 lb, LHS, Mikael Granlund | 4yrs x 5.000M (DAL)

Putting aside the Winnipeg issue…the only ones that really interest me on that list are Brock Nelson or Sam Bennett. Nelson could work on a short 2yr deal, but if we’re looking longer term, then it’s Bennett hands down
I saw a report that he won’t sign in Canada and therefore I’ll remove him from this list, since Sam Bennett is apparently a little bitch,

Friedman reiterated today that Schenn wasn't going to come to Winnipeg at the deadline. I think we can strike him off the list as a potential offseason target.

If I was a pro hockey player and earned the right to play wherever I wanted as a FA I wouldn't play in Canada either. You can call him a little bitch but he's earned the right to pick his spot.

He’s definitely a little bitch…as is anyone who refuses to play hockey in Canada…even worse if they’re Canadian.
Picking the odd city because of certain issues I can understand…like Montreal because of the rabid French language crap, or Toronto because, well Toronto is a shithole…but the whole country…that’s just dumb

When I hear Friedman and the Winnipeg Jets in the same sentence I ignore it. Seriously I don’t ever recall him getting one Jet rumour correct.

There's lots of reasons to not want to play somewhere. When it comes to Canada, the media attention can be pretty intense and some people don't want that (I wouldn't). Plus he's won a Cup so he's not chasing his first ring and I'd imagine after living on the beaches of Miami for awhile, signing up to drive 45 minutes to Kanata for all your home games doesn't sound super appealing.

Ignoring the current political environment, I think there are lots of reasons to not want to play in Canada. Myself I wouldn't rule anywhere out but it would be A factor.

and if I was a pro hockey player and earned the right to play wherever I wanted I would play anywhere in the US either.

Players have a right in FA to play where they want but I find too many players are short sighted in this regard. They don't want Canada and the media/exposure that comes with it but by that same token that exposure and passion is a large reason for their multimillion salaries. Canada punches well above its weight in terms of providing HRR for the league as a whole and if I was a player I wouldn't be taking that for granted.
