I mean, I understand the premise of your post, but you and I both know he absolutely is worried if he projects to being a 2C, or at the very least a top-six contributor in the future for the Jets.
The org has always put a premium on higher caliber assets because as the posts above show it isn't exactly easy to acquire players to fit these roles. More often than not, you are taking on some form of baggage, whether it's injury history, age, attitude, etc. - these type of additions don't present themselves too often. Especially if you are Winnipeg. The current construction of the Jets top six speaks volumes if you look at who was drafted/acquired in trades vs. picked up in free agency.
Out of curiosity, in the case of Nelson, who is going to be 34 years old next season and a UFA, what were you comfortable giving up in a package to acquire him? Keep in mind, Yager and 1st likely wasn't going to be sufficient, especially seeing the return in the end, so there would need be to an add of value there for them to consider.
