Speculation: 2024/25 Trade Rumours, Speculation etc Thread

Kevin Cheveldayoff is involved in all kinds of different trade conversations, but the veteran GM isn’t expected to take a jackhammer to a roster that’s racked up the NHL’s best points percentage and an eye-popping plus-71 goal differential. The situation is similar to the one in Washington. Among the items on Cheveldayoff’s shopping list are a depth defenseman and a bottom-six forward who has the ability to jump into the top six for a spell should an injury necessitate it. As a result, the Jets are among the teams calling on Jake Evans, Joel Armia, Ryan Donato and others.

I really hope it's not armia...

Yes to Donato, please!!!

Not sold on ROR.

I think we'd have to give up too much to get him, and frankly I don't know if I can cheer for a guy who uses this curve.

Interesting comments from KFC sounds like he's not expecting too much at TDL ... they have a good group.

He's a smart man. Unfortunately, what we REALLY need (2C, 4/5 D) will be super overpriced, and we know Chevy don't play like that.

Unless Cheveldayoff manufactures a hockey trade that's totally off the radar, I don't see us doing more than adding black aces depth tbh

What's with the constant rumors along the lines of Armia/Evans?

Is HFHabs board running the media now? Are we going to play Evans on Scheifele's line so he doesn't get skittish? Does Scheifele stop getting boo'd if Evans is a Jet?

Isn't Armia on the wrong side of 30 and what exactly does he bring? Is he better than Appleton? I'm not convinced.

2C and LD are the spots that do the most good for us IMO. If we are big game hunting 2C is the most impactful move as it drops Namestnikov to the Lowry or Kupari line and gives us a lot more flexibility.

I assume we'll try our best with guys like Nelson and ROR. Firmly believe Jared Mccann is a guy we should be looking at though. Gourde would be a solid add too.

If we can't add a legit 2C then maybe get into the Rakell/Bjorkstrand and etc.

As for D, I have a feeling that Chevy is looking at low cost adds for depth but would love to see them in on Ferraro or Oleksiak. I think Miller is perfectly fine holding down that 3rd RHD spot.

Heard Zibanjed's comments about Lindgren after the trade. Eye-opening if you're a GM considering making a move even to the periphery of your roster.

“The way [Ryan Lindgren] played, the way he was on the ice, I think it’s very apparent for everyone and very obvious what he did for us,” a frustrated Zibanejad stated, via USA Today’s Vince Mercogliano. “And when you have someone who does all the things that he did for us – the way he played through injury, the way he just battled every game.
You talk about giving 100% every night, that was Lindy. And then off the ice, one of the nicest human beings I’ve ever met. It’s tough.

Yup never say never with Chevy but if the market is not there I am very fine with adding a bit of depth but giving this special group their shot.

I still don't know about Miller. He and Stan have been fine but there's something about his game that unsettles me and the org seems to agree judging by how often he gets healthier.

Having said that, having him in the pb in the playoffs is a heck of an insurance plan.

No kidding I hate this time of year ... nothing but BS rumors
The sports media like Friedman getting attention on nothing burgers. He even pauses between words to get extra seconds of air time .
Anyone else sick of the media asking the same stupid questions to players and coaches about TDL?

Agreed.

Evans being a RHS, solid in the dot, makes at least a little bit of sense for a utility depth piece, but still. Meh.

Armia legitimately is a nothing burger for this team. No thanks.

I’m sick of the same questions about everything

I don't want Armia anywhere near the Jets. And it's just because whomever is doing the play-by-play has to always say "Joel Armia" instead of just "Armia" like he's some special player or something.

Now, if the Habs were to just give Armia to the Jets for absolutely nothing, then maybe.

I still get a kick out of everybody dumping on Namestnikov, but boy I like how he plays. I like how he controls the middle of the ice, with the puck. He seems to have no trouble finding his wingers on the ice, and staying in good support positions.

Anyone want to talk about Ehlers? I mean he does no wrong, but you see as the games tighten up, he's real shy about getting into high danger scoring areas. He can use his speed to shoot from the circles, but I still don't see a guy who will take the puck to the net hard, pay the price. The Nashville game where he took a cross check to the ribs, and another to shoulder/neck that's about as close as I've seen, and he laid on the ice for 5 minutes after it. That's playoff hockey, you want to score, you could get hurt. Is there any sign that anything has changed in his game?

I know it's fun to say in these parts a Pionk contract will age out poorly, but he's well conditioned, doesn't miss time, however an Ehlers contract if he stays a perimeter player that loses a step (because d-men can reinvent their game losing speed) could be just as bad. There I said it.

I just want to win a round in the playoffs. That's a reasonable ask. Getting by Dallas could be a challenge, as the Stars have drafted better recently (Johnston vs Lucius for instance) and have a core that knows how to win.

F these lateral moves.. make a big splash or don't bother at all.. ppl throwing out these average players that don't move the needle.. they don't really address any issue... last thing jets need is another depth forward when thier loaded with guys of that caliber.. need a top 6 forward or a solid defensman who can play 2nd or 3rd pair.. outside of that just stand pat.. its baffling that ppl think these bums are upgrades to Appleton.. iaffalo or even kupari for that matter.. when they slump every one out for thier head when they do good ppl marvel at the jets depth..

Well this is what happens when teams dissapoint. You move out good pieces and piss off the room.

Last thing this team needs is a bottom 6 forward.. best record in league primarily due to guys being able to step up in absence of key players... jets were hitting on all cylinders without Lowry.. indicative of thier depth and how strong they can be when playing within the structure... these last 4 games shouldn't define them if anything it shows that even when tgier struggling and not getting the bounces they can still remain competitive

Oh I'm quite worried about a big money long term Ehlers extension. I worry how impactful he'll be when he loses a step. Almost all of his game is based on his skating so it's a pretty big concern for me.

I haven't really cared for his play the last three. He's trying to take too many guys on and as you said teams have tightened up. I've liked Perfetti's and Namestnikov's games better than his lately. Both spend a lot more time in the hard areas and are making plays.

Fair comments about Ehlers, at the same time though who knows how hurt he actually was? The problem is Nik is dramatic so it's impossible to tell. I don't actually get mad at refs when Ehlers goes down because I can't tell if it's real or not. If he has a trait I really dislike this would be it. Scheifele whines too much too.

I'm also concerned about Kyle Connor. In playoff hockey he shies away from contact historically. I can't recall if it was last year or the previous season but on one play he actually turned out of a board battle with a single player. He's definitely been better this year but will he maintain it in the playoffs? Team USA made him a healthy scratch and not because he can't put the puck in the net; I assume it was because of the expected physicality in that game.

Arguably that's my biggest concern about the Jets: there are numerous players built for the playoffs but quite a few of our high end guys seem to not be able to thrive in contact. My hope is they learned something last year. We'll see.
