What makes you think Nik is going to sign now. You want to complicate a season start throwing numbers around in the middle of it. Worked well for Rantanen. I'm sure there was negotiations in the offseason, and it doesn't sound like Nik was interested in signing. But Chevy made the decision to give the team a chance to compete in the playoffs by keeping Nik instead of trading him. Because the offers probably weren't great.
10 goals last playoff came from Scheif/KC/Josh and Big Adam Lowry. 0 from Ehlers.
In fact in the last 3 playoffs Ehlers and Logan Stanley have the same amount of goals. Pionk has 7 more points.
Playoffs do matter. They matter a lot. If this team isn't trying to win in the playoffs what's the point of attending regular season games? For the entertainment of being eliminated in the 1st round? Is that what being a Jets fan is?
Ehlers should be proving himself on his next contract. Not just in the regular season but in the playoffs too.
Schief and Connor had 6 points together in the 1st game last playoffs and they carried us to a win with the help of Georgiev. After that game they were a non factor which is another reason we got swept after one win “again”. Those two have not been nearly good enough in the playoffs since 2017 when they peaked. They are our 1st line stars that get the prime PP minutes and they need to be much better come playoffs.
I think it’s worth restating we keep winning one game in the playoffs and then getting swept. We are not even competitive. It’s embarrassing for everyone INCLUDING our 1st line. They are part of the problem.
Not sucking as bad as Ehlers is way too low a bar for our top two forwards. We need our best to all elevate starting with Helle, then Mark and Kyle, then yes Nik needs to get on a role, after that Morrissey and Lowry and our depth pieces but our best ALL NEED TO ELVATE.
Trade deadline will not move the needle for this team if our best 5 or 6 players don’t play better in the post season than they have in the regular season for once. Team Canada and Team USA just gave us the blueprint. The biggest starts all played passionate 200 foot games and defended with just as much passion as they attacked.
