I'd do Carlo + Frederic for our 1st, 3rd, and Heinola. Not a crazy upgrade or change to the existing roster and chemistry, but a ton of additional size and toughness that I feel like we're lacking a bit.

Connor - Scheifele - Vilardi
Perfetti - Names - Ehlers
Nino - Lowry - Appleton
Iafallo - Kupari - Frederic

Gus/Barron

Morrissey - DeMelo
Samberg - Pionk
Stanley - Carlo

Miller/Fleury
You're going to give up all that for a 3rd pairing D man and a 4th line winger that is an UFA after this season? Carlo has two more seasons but don't you think we could get a 3rd pairing D man a little cheaper than his 4.1m AAV?
If Frederic extended at a reasonable amount, I would probably be okay with this deal depending if Pionk re-signs.

With the current animosity between the US and Canada I wonder if it might be even more difficult to persuade American players to waive their NTC to come to Winnipeg, except for maybe one Spring playoff run.

Idk maybe. But there are some really good American players playing for Canada. I think once it’s done it’s back to business

With how weak this draft is, our 1st straight up for Carlo

Carlo is also as soft as baby shit considering how big the guy is, don't we already have another third pairing guy like that if memory serves?

Not to mention he is an offensive black hole and his D stats aren't great either this season, not good on the PK, also seems to be one more concussion away from retirement considering how many he has suffered in his career so far.

Lets stay away from this guy please.

Is Carlo an upgrade on our top 4? Or is he just bigger?

At least he has term.
I haven't been impressed the last few years. He started out great when he broke into the league but hasn't really lived up to that. Maybe a change of scenery might fix that, but for the apparent cheap cost it may be worth it. I think he has a mod NTC though.

Here's a far out trade concept...

The question: how cooked is Couturier?

He's had a string of injuries and a decline in performance, but he still has positive value and the Jets could perhaps use his versatility.

But that contract is an albatross, and virtually buy-out proof.

Flyers would need to retain as much as 50%.

Price would have to still be low.

Couturier would need to agree (but Tortorella has made his situation in Philly quite fraught at times).

So a huge long-shot, but would the Jets have an interest in taking the risk at around $4M cap hit for the duration? Probably not...

We could finally put those Scheifele vs Coutrurier debates to rest :p. I kid I kid.

He's a player that would probably benefit a lot from a change of scenery much like O'Reilly.

Would be a risk, but one I think could pay off if there is retention.

Yeah it's definitely pricey, I'm just looking at who's out there in the rumours and both those guys really shore up what I see as one of our biggest weaknesses.

Draft is supposed to suck anyway so I'm fine giving away a very late pick.

Just a reminder that there really aren't many 2025 1sts available on the trade market, and only the most confident teams would risk a 2026 1st at this stage because of the possibility of an unexpected slump due to injuries or dysfunction that puts a contender into potential lottery territory (see NYR and VCR). Imagine the Jets with a long-term injury to Hellebuyck or Morrissey or Scheifele.

Here is the list of 2025 1sts that might be on the market:

Top Contenders / Buyers:

Caps
Jets
Canes
Kings

Bubble Teams / Possible Buyers:

Bruins
Wings
Canucks
Sens
CBJ (with their second 1st)

That's it. I highly doubt the bubble teams will be shopping for rentals, so really not much out there for sellers looking for a 1st round pick.

I expect more buyers digging into their prospect pools to try to add at the TDL, but prices for rentals might not be as high as some previous years because the competition is thinned out in terms of available high picks.

I'm hoping Chevy can get a real bargain or two, and only spend his 1st and/or top prospects for a top player with term.

I'm just curious how many players with term were traded at the deadline last year? Year before? Hagel and Jeannot are the two biggest names I can remember recently and the cost was high.

Hagel's been a beauty, and probably worth the cost, but it was a big risk.

Jeannot has been a flop, and a cautionary tale for acquiring a player that's on a single-season heater.

I'm thinking Chevy doesn't want to paid the freight for a player with term, too bad cause this team as good as they are could really use a really good 2c in the playoffs especially if teams can shut down the top line. Trade deadline less than 3 weeks away and barring some substantial injuries he might dip his toes into the depth player market.

Forgot about Nino. That was a solid one from David Poile.

Value contracts were coveted with the hard cap. This year teams have a nice budget to work with next year, so maybe there's a big contract or two on the move.

I wonder how much things are complicated by the fact that Namestnikov has 6 points in his last 4 games, and has been the driver for that line. Is a guy pacing for 45 points, secondary PP time and +18 on the season to date the weakest link on this team?

I still wouldn't be upset if Chevy holds on to his 1st round pick. If it's only rentals on the table, and the rentals that could help have NTCs maybe just go with what has worked, and add depth where it is available.

The way I see it the Jets need defense for the future. The lack of ELC depth on defense, with Salomonsson probably graduating in another year after Miller and Stanley's contracts expire, and Heinola looking like he could moved seems like a definite team need going forward.

There's a lot of bigger d-men available in the 2nd round of the draft, and the Jets would at least be in position to trade down there.
