This is more of what im talking about, it wasn't that the 2nd line suffered from the acquisitions, I think the fact that players got bumped is what messed things up
Injuries too.

Barron went down late in the year. Key PKer.

Nino took a skate blade in the leg. Slowed him down. Probably the worst result an Adam Lowry line had in the playoffs.

Top line got beat too. Vilardi was not impactful.

Perfetti only got in when Namestnikov went down. After AJF got in for Gus. Kupari was buried by Bones, which is curious with speed factor.

There's a different look with Namestnikov and Kupari up the middle instead of Monahan and Gus, and speed is the difference.

Dillon injury threw the team in some chaos too. Bottom pairing sucked game 4. You could probably say bottom pairing sucked game 1-4. With Miller didn't suck but 2nd pairing struggled in decisive game, specifically one player.

How are you defining that?

CSV outcored their matchups at 5v5

Are you sure about that. Scheif -6, Vilardi -4?
I thought Middlestadt's line outscored them?

Pretty sure those -s was after the blender came out

Edit:

Went to NaturalStatTrick since they don't have a 10 minute minimum for ice time together...

ESV was 0GF 2GA in 7:51

There are 5 5v5 goals against unaccounted for there. 4 on 4? Empty net? Nt sure how those sites track those

The second line got a lot slower as a result of the acquisitions and as a result the Avs were able to skate circles around them.
They beat the Avs 7-0 a few days prior to the PO's while the nhls data tracked Monahan + Toffoli playing at a higher pace than Perfetti + Namestnikov. Monahan also was on ice for 1 GA (at 5v5) vs the Avs in the PO's.

on the ray & dregs podcast dreger said that the messaging he is getting from managers is coming out of the four nations break is going to do a frenzy, also said that there are some bigger names starting to percolate and named marchand and brayden schenn

Wonder if the blues will sell high on Parayko if he has a great tournament. If schenn is on the block they'll probably consider it.

If JoMo gets paired with him for Canada and looks good, I'd empty the cupboards. He's old but the next season or two will be our best shot at the cup anyway

Wasn't Stastny the captain of Blues when he was traded?

For some reason I see Schenn going to Vegas. Mc Crimmon has the market on Wheat Kings.

He'd be a good player for a legit run, if he's still got something in the tank.

St. Louis looks like a team that is going to make some changes. Parayko would have to waive to come here, but that would be cool if they found some kind of chemistry they could carry into the Olympics.

Jarvis was available at #10. Jets chose Perfetti.

Admittedly, I don’t know in any way shape or form for a fact if Jarvis would want to play for the Jets and be a lifetime resident of the area. I have no knowledge about his preferences and wishes but just as an example “x or y winnipeg area” nhl top tier player who actually would put winnipeg at the top of where they want to play in the nhl or do what they could behind the scenes to move back to the area

Today looking back would have been nice to draft Jarvis. At the time, Perfetti looked like a steal at 10

Blues need goaltending...
Binnington made 4 Nations. Probably bought out at the end of the season. Apparently Vegas coaches didn't like Logan Thompson. Montembault is the token french guy.

Blues also need defense. Krug didn't pan out. Fowler, Faulk are underperforming. Broberg is their 2nd best d-man. That's why I'd be surprised if they traded Paryko.

The Isles have a brutal defense looking towards tomorrow's game. But they are still winning. I read something about the team being unsure of going long term with Dobson, even though he was playing 24 minutes a night.

If I was Chevy I'd ask about him, see if there is something there for the deadline, maybe the offseason.

0 interest in sending the assets to acquire and then extend Dobson. There's a reason why fans, and apparently management being unsure about going long term with him.

His counting stats are going to have his agent demanding a huge number, and fans that watch him play know he doesn't bring enough overall game to be worth it.

Same reason why I'd want nothing to do with having to sign Evan Bouchard.

Perfetti was the right choice at the time, and continued to look like the right choice until D+2 when Jarvis was promoted to the NHL and spent more than half his time with Aho and most of the rest with Trocheck as his centers (Canes 1 and 2 centers at the time).

Perfetti might still turn out to be the right choice. Jarvis still gets most of his minutes on the top line with Aho and also has played on Carolina's top powerplay unit for the last two seasons. Perfetti's been deployed differently, with Namestnikov as his center most of the time and his powerplay time mainly on the 2nd unit.

The guy put up 70 points last year. I'd say there has to potential there, maybe a case where coach and player aren't on the same page this year.

I'd be surprised if Arniel broke from De Melo on top pairing and Chevy went heavy on another d man, but it is worth the time to say the Jets best season came from a strength at RD that hasn't been matched. One more contract year is probably the timeline for Salomonsson to be ready.

I think Jarvis has been with Staal and Martinook for the better part of 2 seasons. Carolina is a team that tries to score with 4 lines. Top PP is a huge difference. Perfetti might get that chance next season.

There was a huge debate as to that pick... he was not the 'right choice' - it was a complete tossup between him, Lundell, Jarvis and Schneider. I wanted Lundell and think he would have been better for this team in the long run... I would be pleasantly surprised for Perfetti to prove me wrong for the next 30 games though

If we were not ever intending on playing Perfetti at C, then he was definitely the wrong choice.

Right choice for the Jets was probably Schneider. But I think Lundell would have flourished with Ehlers...

Yeah I think Lundell was the player a lot of people wanted in that spot. Bigger center that was already playing with men and NHL ready.

Both this season and last Jarvis has spent over half his time with Aho at 5v5, but if he's not with Aho, he's usually with Staal. Almost 900 minutes at 5v5 with Aho over the last 2 seasons. Rantanen will probably bump him down to Staal's line more permanently though.

Perfetti's had 950 minutes with Namestnikov and just 88 with Scheifele the past two years...I like Names, but he's no Aho. Of course Staal's more like Lowry...

Well, I don't think Perfetti was the wrong choice over Jarvis. Lundell is a different story.
