Speculation: 2024/25 Trade Rumours, Speculation etc Thread

It's a completely different position lol why are you bringing up Hughes and Scheifele going down? I'm talking about a goalie. We're 4-7-1 with Comrie this year.. and that's with a career year Scheif and Connor playing in front of him. Come TDL there will be options for peanuts and we got money to spend.

You never seen a goalie get injured in the playoffs and the backup go on a heater before?? Hmm. Anyways. I just wanted to post it so I can quote this later if it happens and maybe plant some seeds.

We're 4-7-1 with Comrie in spite of Scheif and Connor having career years. But they are not having career years when he is in net. Until his last game he was getting basically bupkis goal support. He has actually played quite well, by backup standards.

If we needed a backup (don't think Brossoit might even play this year, plus would need Chicago to eat some of his contract), I'd call Philly and ask about Errson, or even Martin Jones is still a UFA, would only take like $1m to have his for the rest of the season probably. Has been to the Cup final and seems to have been a serviceable backup the last couple seasons.

Who knows who's available at TDL, some teams will go into tank mode not everything is clear yet. I'm willing to bet if we played him 5 games in a row we would lose 3 games atleast, his career stats say so (28-33). Can't be risking that in the playoffs if somehow helle gets hurt is all.

There is no good reason to expect any better with Talbot, and especially not with Quick. You might feel more secure because of their names.

Reactions: Gm0ney and Jets 31
Bro I'm from Winnipeg, I lived there for 30 years lol I went through losing the team when I was a kid. I'm from fort Garry, I'm definitely a Jets fan. I watch all Jets and Canucks games, it took me forever to be able to support the Canucks and the only reason I was able to is because I worked for Trevor Linden and the Sedins and they were incredibly nice people. This is not my first post here lol, I used to post under the name liberty haze and I think jetsfan204 back in the day, when we first came back I made a bunch of fancy gdts, posting video of training camp on YouTube all that jazz I've just lost passwords and emails over the years mostly due to broken cellphones.
Changing names.... very suspicious

All we need is someone for 1 playoff run just in case

Sure, but we had one and couldn't keep him. We can't get one now. None are available. The names you are tossing around are no better than Comrie. We need someone who can save at a .920+ pace under PO pressure, behind the Jets D. Otherwise, we are hooped. Just like would be if we lost Scheif or Morrissey for the PO. We need that kind of quality behind them just as much as we need it behind Helle. 3 1b level players.

I think that list sums it up pretty well.

Which of those goalies a) plays for a team likely to be a seller and b) is a significant enough upgrade over Comrie to part with assets?

Husso and Lyon are probably available but are barely more reliable than Comrie (if at all?). Jonathan Quick maybe, but as Gmoney mentioned he’s got a 20 team no trade list; doubt he waives to play second fiddle in Winnipeg. And yeah playoff pedigree, but he’s pushing 40 and has a sub 0.900 save percentage this season.

The only one that stands out is Karel Vejmelka, maybe? I haven’t heard much about HC’s plans with him. He’s having a solid season, but I don’t know if he’s enough of an upgrade to make it worth the assets we’d give up.

Not sure why we're talking about upgrading at backup

Comrie won't play enough to impact our standings, and if helle gets hurt then there's nobody out there that would give us a chance IMO
Agreed plus Comrie has played pretty good considering most of his starts if not all have been on back to back games. Team is tired and haven't scored many goals when he has been in net .

Yeah...

I could see it if we were losing his starts 6-5 and we were sitting 2 points out of a wildcard spot or something

Plus, from his "Mic'd Up" segment he seems like a great guy to have in the room and he seems universally loved by his teammates

I really like your examples/suggestions, and I appreciate your response.

I'm not particularly well versed with other team's defenseman (other than the biggest names out there), at least, compared to what I knew of them in the '80s through to the mid '00s. I generally line-up the most with your thoughts - as you see it and how you articulate what you're seeing - on our team's defenseman, which is why I had asked you.

I like a guy like Mario Ferraro, who fits the mold of a Dillon type, maybe not with the fists, but the size, can hit and block shots.

He still has another year under his current contract (2025-26 at $3,250,000), which I like at that price. Can you see him potentially displacing Dylan DeMelo as Morrissey's partner?

Dumoulin would be a similar type. Maybe not as big of a hitter.

He's a UFA in 2025, and is making almost the same as Ferraro. I like that he had experience with those Penguin teams that won in '16 and '17, his size.

A quote from The Hockey News (.com):

"The aspect of his game that is most surprising has been his ability to absorb or slip forecheckers and make crisp, undisrupted first passes out of his zone on breakouts."

"I think my biggest thing is breakouts," Dumoulin said. "Just being able to be clean and not just rim pucks but also make plays, try to create odd-man rushes, and be able to create an exit out of the zone that isn't just a high flip or a rim. I want to be able to create something where if forwards are fresh, they can get on a forecheck."

I like this, because this was a glaring problem in last year's playoffs. What pairing do you see him on?

Lindgren isn't as big, but you don't earn a nickname like Warrior without playing hard out there.

He's also a UFA in 2025.

Do you see him as someone - based on his age and that he's from Minnesota - who Chevy could sign beyond him just being a rental for the playoffs?

Funny enough, I read someone's comment on a Rangers' board:

love the way he plays however i would not resign him for a big deal due to his high injury risk. Would love to see rangers pick up a guy like brendon dillon who is a free agent and brings plenty of what they are looking for in physicality grit and toughness around the net.

Do you think that he's not being properly utilized in New York?

I still like Scott Laughton if the Jets are going in that direction. Seems like a guy who could grow in the future with Perfetti, maybe center him this year and next year, as the prospects grow, a little more of a battler and net drive than Namestnikov, who is a guy that I would say you have to be a little worried that he can hold up the whole way, the way he plays. Versatility is something that could help Scotty.

In this scenario, do you still have Perfetti playing on the same line as Ehlers?

I didn't mind what I saw with Lowry playing with Ehlers in their limited run together. I also think maybe the Jets should juggle the 2nd and 3rd lines more often, based on matchups. I think the 3rd line (the traditional Lowry line with Appleton and Niederreiter) can get dull over the course of the year, and it could probably help stimulate them by playing on different lines, in different situations, with the idea that in most match-ups, they will revert to playing on the same line most of the time.

That's also to say that the Perfetti/Names/Ehlers line would get worn down if they only played together. That line is too small, but they do get getting match-ups, and they don't play heavy minutes compared to a number of other 2nd lines.

Names looks much better since coming back from injury (overlooking that he's been productive on the scoresheet), as does the line itself.

Really would be an amazing twist if you were inanna/stumbledore

We'll never know... :) It would be interesting to try to decipher why stumbledore would kill his account to make way for mine though. It's not even a sideways move.

I'm personally not certain that they're the same person, even though there are indicators that they are the same person. The only person who could know, or those who have the most information to (potentially) debunk the whole mystery, are those that can see the IP addresses.

If stumbledore is Inanna, the only thing he and I have in common is that we have both watched Sex & The City. The Inanna character is like a composite of all the four main cast members (v.1), with a bit of Steve (the bartender) mixed in as well. The character that "she" was the least like, was Charlotte, but "she" had her period where "she" was dating the doctor too.

"She" then went on to play out Looking for Mr. Goodbar when "she" moved East. I also thought that there were elements of Star 80 going back to "her" time out West.

I have no issues with Comrie in net, back up goalie is the least of our worries.

I think with some people, he's coming in with unfair expectations on the heels of what Brossoit did last year.

Brossoit.png

I would have to imagine that Brossoit had one of the All Time greatest seasons for a backup goaltender.

If you just isolate Brossoit's season as a backup against all of the backups in the history of the NHL, I think he probably had a greater season as a backup than Hellebuyck had as a starter when you compare Hellebuyck's season vs all of the Veniza winners throughout the game's history. To be extra clear, I'm not implying or saying that Brossoit had a greater season than a guy who won the Veniza last year.

This year, Hellebuyck is having his greatest year, and would have to be a serious Hart candidate. I don't think he's on par with Hasek in the '90s, but he seems to be moving closer to him, and away from someone like Ed Belfour who I think he compares favorably against.

If the NHL had a Hart-like trophy for players who played on 4th lines (maybe 3rd lines), 3rd pairing defenseman, and backup goaltenders, I think Brossoit likely would have won an award like that last year.

I was thinking about a player in another sport, who would have had a similar season to Brossoit, and Mark Eichhorn's 1986 rookie year came to mind, a great season for a middle reliever/set-up man.

With the Jets and Hellebuyck (knock on wood), all you need is a back-up, not a starter who can also play back-up. I imagine that could get under Hellebuyck's skin, knowing that the guy backing him up, wants his role.

Comrie would not be a disaster if Hellebuyck went down.
How many bad goals has he let it?
Most of those losses were the Jets lack of scoring.
Give some credit to the system the Jets are playing on some nights Hellebuyck does not have to make a great save.

I've had my qualms with Comrie in the past, but this year is not one of those years. I think he's been everything we could have hoped for despite the record not being too pretty, thus far.

I think it'll even itself out as the year goes on. Few more bounces, some more run support, and it'll be much more respectable as we head into the Spring.

Are there better options? Of course. But there are other depth issues this team can and should address prior to a backup goalie behind a Hart front runner.

Whether you're joking or not, something in that realm makes more sense to me.

I had nothing against Stumbledore, I just saw someone (Inanna) who I thought was potentially taking advantage of (lonely) men who're frequently on the internet. That's certainly a problem these days.

I said it before, but I only thought there was a >1% chance that they were the same person. There are reasons to think that they're the same person, but I'm not 100% there with that.
