Speculation: 2024/25 Trade Rumours, Speculation etc Thread

Short term the Flames got players that will help them with a playoff spot, I don't know how Kuzmenko scored 39 goals in 22/23 but he hasn't come close to that production and hasn't come close to playing 81 games
Pelletier is also a guy that recently cleared wavers back in December. Not even getting a 1st rounder back makes it a fleecing. WTF is Briere doing?

I don't know where he might fit in this seasons playoff run without an injury, but I'm liking Gus more and more on the 4th line. I think it's extremely likely that IA is gone this summer, and depending on the ask and where the Jets think they might need the $, I could see Apples pricing himself out too. Gus is looking like he could be a solid 4th line guy who also takes some minutes on the PK.

I think Appleton is gone after this season. Havent been impressed with his play since he's been back from injury. A guy like Ford could replace him at a much lower cap hit.

So the cap floor will be higher than the cap was when Winnipeg joined the league...

This is going to be an issue for Canadian teams as remember that cap is in US dollars.

Cap in today's CDN dollars:

2025-26 : $137.58M
2026-27 : $149.83M
2027-28 : $163.51M

For the Jets it doesn't matter what the NHL says the cap is, it's what the Jets can really afford and what the ticket buyers can afford.

Cap is tied to revenues, and a lot of revenues are shared. Where's all this money coming from? It's not just from season ticket sales in Toronto and New York.

I definitely agree with the first (bolded) part, in large part because if you know that the team is going to commit to the way Ehlers plays, I can't see any traditional center that would work well with him. I have a similar outlook on how he plays, as you do; thinking about previous posts you've made.

Just curious, which defenceman that's out there, did you have in mind? Or more specifically, what kind of archetype would you be targeting?

I was thinking today, how Hellebuyck is probably in the Hart conversation this year, the Jets (as of today) are 1st in Goals For, and that no matter how good we look now, the same defensive problems are likely to arise no different than last year in the playoffs; save for if we get a more favorable match-up in style. It would be a waste to not try to find a way of upgrading the defense, especially to let our franchise player know that we've got him in mind first.

It's too bad we can't pick off someone like a Mark Tinordi (v. 1990-91) that's being underutilized on another team; and that we could get for cheap.
It's hard to gauge who's available right now, so many teams are in the race.

I like a guy like Mario Ferraro, who fits the mold of a Dillon type, maybe not with the fists, but the size, can hit and block shots.

I think that's the kind of guy you replace Stanley with in the lineup, a big defenseman.

Dumoulin would be a similar type. Maybe not as big of a hitter.

Lindgren isn't as big, but you don't earn a nickname like Warrior without playing hard out there.

The latter two I think would come at the price of a 2nd rd pick (Jets only have 2026 2nd on the table), and maybe a later pick in this year. I'm not against trading Heinola now, just to let the kid cash in and play some hockey in his career, but I can't imagine he has a great value around the league.

I still like Scott Laughton if the Jets are going in that direction. Seems like a guy who could grow in the future with Perfetti, maybe center him this year and next year, as the prospects grow, a little more of a battler and net drive than Namestnikov, who is a guy that I would say you have to be a little worried that he can hold up the whole way, the way he plays. Versatility is something that could help Scotty.

I'd be pretty happy if the Jets come away at the trade deadline with their 1st round pick still. If Chevy uses it I hope it's for term players, not rentals.
