when somebody says we don't have the prospects to get quinn hughes and one of your counter arguments is "he wants out and doesn't want to be in a rebuild" what do you think that implies?

it doesn't matter if you didn't name the prospects, we know who our top prospects are and none of them are good enough to be the center piece of a quinn hughes deal and vancouver isn't going to accept a package of prospects who rate as middle of the line up players if they even end up making it

anyways I'm done with this useless conversation, if you think we have the prospects to pull this off it shouldn't be hard to come up with an actual offer that you can go post on the main boards to gage the response

I guess I lied when I said I wouldn't respond, quinn hughes doesn't have trade protection, he can ask for a trade but has zero leverage on which team he goes too.

as for the package I don't see any reason vancouver would accept that, samberg is 26, perfetti has been very inconsistent, he is still a big ? to make it, lambert isn't exactly lighting it up right now and those picks aren't going to be that good

if vancouver trades hughes it's going to be for a high end prospects at premium positions not a bunch of depth players

I think everyone is a little bit rose coloured glasses when it comes to what its going to take to retain all of our guys.

Pionk is realistically going to be in the 5-7 year range and 6.5M per year minimum (probably closer to something like 7 or 7.5M over 7 years).

Connor next year is going to be 9.5M per year at minimum as well and wouldnt be surprised to see him go as high as 10.5 or 11.

Ehlers should and will fall in at 8M per year minimum as well, and could go as high as 8.5 or 9.

Vilardi is still an RFA year but I can't see how he signs a long term deal for an AAV that is less than beginning with a 7, but more likely also an 8.


All told though that shouldn't completely hamper our ability to make a big trade. If all of those numbers hit, its like adding about 10-12M onto our current payroll. 6M of that is covered by the buyouts coming off the books and at least another 4 or 5 minimum with the cap rising.

Replace Iafallo and Namestinikov with Iafallo for 2M and/or another young guy(s) (Chibrikov/Lambert/Kupari) and its not all doom and gloom cash strapped that some people think.

Going into a rebuild is the one time a quantity for quality deal like that makes sense. Enough good pieces to jumpstart a rebuild for a team with a less than great prospect pool.

The appeal with Bo Byram is he could turn into the next Josh Morrissey. And he has Manitoba ties.

Josh and Bowen are both great skaters, offensively-minded, average size or below-average size dmen that can get a bit physical but at their size, they'll never be Scott Stevens-like hitters.

Similar numbers in their junior and NHL careers to start. Hope would be that Arniel and the coaches can turn him into the next Morrissey, which would be outstanding.

Top 4 RHD, defense first, size, physicality, skating. Not Hughes. The way everybody here is talking today Pionk is going to be too expensive. So we need a top 4 RHD. Or, if Pionk is affordable then push DeMelo down.

I legit think the sabres or canadiens pull the trigger on petersson - their assets match much more than anyone else

We seem locked in with stan but jake walman or brian dumoulin would be my targets

Novak is having a down year with the preds... he could be a good gamble too

Might be good with prospects if the Sabres are trying to cut costs on payroll. But then you hear them in on Pettersson, and I really have no idea what direction they are going. They have the only GM in the league who has hired 3 different coaches with 10 game losing streaks in his tenure.

Personally I think that's a player a lot of teams would be calling about, because if he got on the right team in the West could be a significant factor in the playoffs, and another guy who is hungry for a good contract after this season, but won't make the greatest impact in Buffalo. Not sure if there is a better d-man potentially on the market, which could drive up the bidding.

I like Perfetti, and I think he'd been a good player for the Jets. I'd also really love to see him succeed here.

That being said, if the Jets could re-sign Ehlers, AND if they are confident in Lambert and Chibrikov joining the Jets next season and contributing, as much as it pains me to say it, I think you'd have to look at that from a roster construction / org depth perspective.

Even if Pionk re-signs in the offseason, Salo is our only legit RHD coming up in the org. To balance that out and have Pionk, DD, Salo, and Clarke on the right side and to have Salo and Clarke for years would be too much to pass up I think.

I'd be really sad though. lol.


(All that being said, I really don't think Weeks's tweet is supposed to mean they're open to moving him. I think with DD back, they probably need to "move" a body, and that might mean moving someone to the AHL, etc. I really can't see them moving Clarke, especially considering DD's age. But hey, GM's do crazy things I guess!)
