Speculation: 2024/25 Trade Rumours, Speculation etc Thread

I'd be nervous moving some of our core guys (who are on heaters) that are beloved in the room for underperforming buffalo Sabres.

Seems like a perfect way to disrupt a franchise best season
Agreed. Personally I have 0 interest in moving Perfetti for Cozens let alone adding.

If the idea was to add Cozens, you have to be acquiring him as player that is massively underperforming his contract. You're basically banking on him improving in a new situation, as the current player is a poor value. That comes at a discount, not with a premium as others here are somehow willing to pay.

When I look around, Cozens does seem to be the best target for Chevy to pursue. It is a matter of what would interest Buffalo enough. I think you have to start with Perfetti. Salo would move the needle, but I don't know if Chevy takes that leap. Maybe Perfetti and Lambert?

I don't think Vancouver moves EP40 for Cozens and Byram. Maybe Cozens and Powers.
cozens; career 0.58 ppg, peak of 0.84 ppg, 7.1m/yr
perfetti: career 0.54 ppg, peak of 0.59 ppg, 3m x 1 more year

guy is massively underperforming a long-term cap hit of 7.1m. Perfetti+one of Lambert or Salo? for all the poor play perfetti has exhibited the last 2 years, cozens is less productive, despite more opportunity.

yes Buffalo sucks and players breakout away from there.... hence this being a buy-low opportunity not buy-high or even equal. i probably wouldn't trade much more than what they got for S. Reinhart a few years ago, even then, Reinhart was much more productive on a crap team. FLA certainly didn't pay the price as if he was the PPG, 50 goal scorer he is today.

exactly.
i don't hate the idea of cozens, however, would like to see how it fits in the Jets cap with extending ehlers, samberg, vilardi and KC. nevertheless, ppl are suggesting high prices as if he is producing at the same level a couple years ago or as if he was already breaking out for us. he's producing less than what Reinhart did, and FLA certainly did not pay a price that demonstrated his future production.

Agreed. The Panthers paid a late 1st (pick 28), and Levi (who at the time was only in his D+1 after being drafted in the 7th round the previous year).

reinhart at the time of trade career 0.65 ppg, with a peak of 0.79 ppg. his 3 years prior he was 0.79, 0.72, and 0.74 ppg, so showing some higher consistency than cozens.
& of course, cozens is owed 7.1m per year thanks to galaxy brained buffalo giving him a big contract off 1 great season.

something around: a late 1st, non-1st or 2nd round equivalent prospect, and a contract if necessary is the most. but perfetti+lambert/salo as suggested, no thanks.

The appeal with Bo Byram is he could turn into the next Josh Morrissey. And he has Manitoba ties.

Josh and Bowen are both great skaters, offensively-minded, average size or below-average size dmen that can get a bit physical but at their size, they'll never be Scott Stevens-like hitters.

Similar numbers in their junior and NHL careers to start. Hope would be that Arniel and the coaches can turn him into the next Morrissey, which would be outstanding.

The appeal with Cozens is he finally figures it out and plays like a modern-day Trevor Linden in the 1994 SC playoffs. Linden had a few good 70-80 pt seasons in his prime, in a different era, but Cozens has some development to do to get to that level consistently.

The balance of Linden's career was role playing production (nothing spectacular) which is the vibe I get from Cozens. At his peak, Cozens could be a 65-70 pt player with size, speed and some grit, but for most of his career he'll be a serviceable role player scoring 40 pts or less.

I'm not against trading for Cozens, though I for one have lower expectations as to what he turns into as a player.

A serviceable 40 point player making 7.1 million a year would be a buyout candidate, no? That's sort of what makes me think Barzal would be a better option, but he would become the Jets highest paid player, which would be weird considering he would be maybe the 5th best player

My guess reading the tea leaves

They will pay but not for a rental
They want a D, will big hunt but I bet they settle
They want a C, again will big hunt but I am guessing this will be a rental

Possible targets? Hard to tell just yet. Teams are still in it. I kind of like Chevy to do bigger trade that sets us up for a few years with this group.

Going to be fun times as we approach the deadlines

When you say ‘they will pay’ I’m assuming you are saying 1sts and top prospects rather than roster players. As to not upset the apple cart too much, no?

I cannot see the Jets moving any roster players save for maybe bottom pairing D like Heinola, Stanley, or Miller. They want to ADD to this year's team not remove anything. So for the pipe dreamers (myself included) hoping for a big swing which likely needs to involve a roster player like perfetti or Names etc. Need to be tempered by the Chevy quote "it needs to be the right fit" because our fit, Is adding not subtracting for the current team that is 1st in the NHL

Cozens thrived in granatos freewheeling system and fell apart as they tried to move to a more sturctured D... gamble but if we shape the 2nd line around ehlers style of play it could work

At this point, id be looking for a rw for ehlers-lowry though... tuch would be a massive coup

Jets need a legit back-up or 1B goalie. Not sure how we get there, but if Helle goes down at any point, Comrie is not a starting goalie.

If Jarry is waived and sent down, is there something there we can do with the Pens eating a lot of his salary?

Demko want out of Van, anything there?
I agree that Comrie doesn't evoke confidence but he's been good overall. He played in the back to back games and had no goal support in most of his losses. He's had some great games. The OT game in LA, his last win, and he hasn't really been blown up. I think the Jets have KK as the backup plan right now.

Pittsburgh, the Islanders, Buffalo, NY, and Vancouver are looking to move players right now. Who do they have that is not being talked about.?

Vegas, Washington, florida and the Jets could be buyers.

What are his mb connections?

cozens is young so there may be upside & of course the potential bounce-back ability from getting away from buffalo. it's not a 30 year old making 7.1m where their ceiling is probably already fully known

Disagree on the appeal. Yes he has potential but the Jets need some size and grit added on the back end not more finesse.

What do we have that gets Hughes? Connor signed at 9 mil for 8 years isn’t enough. Ehlers signed, Salo and 21sts?
rumour is Van are considering blowing it all up and going full rebuild...Hughes is apparently "out" in that scenario.....

so prospects, players and picks.

Guys like
Heinola, Gus Yager Lambert Nino Kupari Apples, Iafallo , Perfetti Barron....

it would be a huge all in win now move..... and we would need to sell quite a bit of the future to win today.... but we have the picks and the players to maybe do it...

Lowry would be fine with another high scoring winger along with Ehlers, Tuch ain't happening though, he already said he doesn't want to move and their GM confirmed he wouldn't move him.

Yeah Hughes is never coming to Winnipeg, can forget even thinking about that.
