I'd like to see the Jets take a look at Oliver Bjorkstrand.

I think the team is leaning towards Lowry as a top 6 player. It's hard to deny he doesn't have a top 6 impact. I'd say there is little chance that Perfetti goes into the playoffs in a top 6 role, and it's conceivable better defensive players and skaters could start ahead of him in the playoffs. And for me it's not that big of a deal because realistically if he wasn't rushed to the NHL as a 19 year old this year would still be an ELC year for him.

But Bjorkstrand has some decent numbers, and that chemistry with Ehlers is possible going back to the Junior days. I think it would be the kind of move that could maybe convince Nik to stay another year as he prepares for his first Olympics. Lowry likes to have a RH shot on his wing. And I think you could make some argument that the 2nd PP would have more options with a RH forward.

The offensive and defensive statistics for Nino, Namestnikov, Iafallo and Appleton are probably good enough to compete with other 3rd lines in the West if the Jets change their approach.

1st + Heinola + ?

For Laughton and Risto @50%

Connor - Scheifele - Vilardi
Ehlers - Lowry - Iafallo
Perfetti - Laughton - Nino
Barron - Names - Appleton

Morrissey - Risto
Samberg - Pionk
Stanley - DeMelo
Still rather have Miller (offside) or Fleury ahead of Stanley.

What pairing is Ristolainen on in Philly? I don’t know that he immediately supplants DeMelo.

definitely doesnt look too bad

The Jets have one of the best defensive systems in the NHL and it relies a lot on closing gaps. I think Risto would fit well in the system because he is big and fast and closes gaps. He would add a more physical D that can get stops in board play and control the net-front.

He's not good offensively but that might be okay since his role would be more to shut down some of the big, fast forward groups in the Central. In a way, he's like a Kupari on D. Kupari lacks offensive polish but his speed and size helps the Jets smother opponents by taking away time and space when he's on the ice. As a purely defensive forward, Kupari is actually one of the Jets' best.

which is weird the gap control thing as you know Stan will be playing over d with better gap control. Good point bout Kupari.

I think Arniel and coaches are pushing Stanley into the lineup for three reasons. 1) they think the rest of the Jets' D lacks size and can't handle big forward rosters along the boards and net-front; 2) they want a player other than Lowry available for fighting, if necessary; 3) they don't want Morrissey on the PK and think Stanley is better than Heinola, and possibly Fleury in that role.

I think Risto addresses the first and most important need. Risto can also PK and that might free Pionk from that role. They might need to consider another LD, but maybe Fleury or Heinola can succeed alongside a bigger RD like Risto.

Fighting is a rare need. Risto isn't a fighter, but isn't a shrinking violet. He is a big physical presence. In any case, if the Jets need a fighter during the regular season, better to use Stanley sparingly for bitter matchups or add a 4th line forward in that intermittent role.

Stan doesn’t fight that often. I’ll believe Stan isn’t a part of regular line up when k see it.
