I think that just goes to show that there are many different ways to succeed in the playoffs. The Jets don't have to get bigger, or fast, or anything. They just need to improve thier weaknesses and maximize thier strengths in whatever way Chevy can.
And figure out a strategy that works that allows you to play your game and not the opponents like in last playoffs.

yup
cup winners come in all shapes and sizes. ppl chase the latest's make-up, but doesn't guarantee you will have the same success.

True that Lowry doesn't fit the template for a 2C due to lack of offense. But does that matter if he can centre a line that is effective as a second line? He is on pace for 45 pts this year. That is low end 2C range. That may rise with the line he is on now with Ehlers and AI (or Apples when he gets back). Meanwhile Nino and Perfetti look good together, even with Kupari at C.

Big IF perhaps, but if Lowry can function as an effective 2C I don't see any reason why we can't go forward with that. 3C might then be a problem, but that is much easier to fix than 2C. If Kupari can start to score playing more minutes with higher skilled players he could be that. I think the jury is still out on him. Though not for too much longer.
The bolded is exactly my problem. It’s a huge IF.

Up until this week, Lowry has never even been mentioned in the same breath as “2C”. Hell, I remember the days when people thought he was essentially a 4C and nothing more. I get he has looked capable in that role for a few games, but as you said, I think the absolute max upside for him is as a 40-45 point scorer. I feel like we’re reverting back to the days when Nik Antropov and/or Olli Jokinen were filling that role!

Bottom line, IMO we need a forward reinforcement that is universally viewed and rates out as a top 6 scorer. As I said, I would settle for a utility F that can play wing and pivot. Ideally it’s a natural C.

The Athletic has some contract projections up today for all our UFA/RFAs.

Samberg is 4 x $4.1m
Pionk is 5 x $7.8m
Ehlers is 5 x $8.4m
Vilardi is 4 x $7.1m

Term is generally too short, but the AAV isn't bad for 3 of 4 of them. Hard pass on Pionk for me.
Those deals look pretty close to the eye test, as well, except for Pionk. Even though he's put up great numbers so far this year, that Pionk deal would be a non-starter if I was GM.

Almost $8M for Pionk is a huge contract and will be an anchor and cap buster for this team for many years. I'm even worried the Jets give him a slight increase (to JMo's level) and it being a bad contract soon afterwards. If that's what he would get in FA, then I'd seriously look to move him before the TD in a deal for a replacement RH dman.

The other deals I would sign immediately, if the players agree to them.

I imagine kc will see what ehlers gets and decide his next contract based on that. If ehlers goes team friendly Connor willl to, but, it will still be a really high number.

Agreed and I'm probably a bigger Pionk fan than most people around here. Also the Samberg prediction of $4.1 is too low. I'll guess Pionk at $6 M and Samberg at $5.5 M
Yup that's a modest raise for Pionk, as for Samberg you can't really bridge him so it will have to be a bigger ticket and probably longer term.
