I think there may be a genuine comfort zone matching up Lowry as a 2C in the organization. That's a step forward for the captain, and he seems to have the shoulders for it. Kupari replacing Namestnikov with an injury hasn't looked bad. If Brad Lambert could get in the mix to as a C I think it takes away some concern, but it still does seem like the thinnest area of talent/experience on the Jets along with 3LD. Centers have a trade value, so avoiding that might prudent if the guys here can make it work.
Still be surprised if there isn't an add here.

You know I bet the Jets would even be willing to let Stan go in a deal for Oleksiak. That way they still have their quota of 6-7 players. They couldn't take him in the expansion draft now's the time!2:If we have to have a 6'7" defenseman, why can't it be Hedman?

No doubt Oleksiak will just slide into Stans slot as most hated Jet if he comes over.
Now Montour - I'd be very happy to get him. He was the best Kraken last night in my mind and made for playoff hockey. I think he and Jomo would be a formidable top pair.
Jets should keep their 1st this year. They have all the pieces. Enough offense and d to go far in po if they execute like they are now.,

That Dreger segment sounded like a Chevy plant. Get the word out that they’re not desperate for a 2C, that way they don’t get ripped off like they did last season with Monahan.
Jets need a centre. Doesn’t matter how you slice it, rolling with Lowry, Kupari, Names as your C depth behind Scheifele is absolute crazy talk if you plan on competing with other Western Conference teams that are loading up.
I can definitely get behind the idea of not giving up another first round pick. I can’t really get behind the idea of rolling with Adam Lowry as our second line centre come playoff time.

I think others in the [ast have said that Dreger seems to get inside info from TNSE and if he breaks news about the team it's credible. They need a 2C in the long run a rental is not the way of getting one. Giving up a first plus prospects for a 2C with term is acceptable.
Lowry will be the #2 center whether Ehlers is on that line or not in terms of minutes. Lowry is always used to shut down the other teams lines. Ehlers just gives that line some offense without taking away anything defensively. Names is probably good enough to play the 3rd line role as well as most centres in the league.
Will be interesting how other teams load up. Ultimately, at end of day it comes to whether Helly can get it done or not. Whether our players can play the way they are in regular season.
There is a reason we are in 1st and other western conference teams are behind us.

Toninato obviously goes down … and probably Phillips who we just picked up from Chicago..

Mo, Pionk, Berg, Fleury, Stan, Heinola, Miller, Demelo. So 8 d.
Gus is the extra forward, Toninato sent down.
Miller and Fleury are supposed to be back next game, Appleton is already skating, no clue about Names.
Don't want to get to ahead of myself since it has merely been a couple games with Lowry at 2c, which includes a blowout game where Vancouver didn't show up
However, If they have another offensive minded player and producer with Lowry (or Namestnikov) and Ehlers i think it's fine. Which means getting in another top6 winger.
Both names and lowry do the 2way and support work really well, and can both do clean up duty around the net. But as a top 6 line, I think they need 2 players that can be offensive catalysts, so an offensive upgrade over Iafallo.

Not splitting hairs about 2C/3C. Lowry has generally been listed as our 3C on the depth chart, generally centres our “third line”, but yes I realize that he’ll generally get second most usage in terms of TOI (behind Scheifele).
Call me stubborn or narrow-minded, but I dislike any plan that doesn’t involve us acquiring a centre (or at least a utility F that can comfortably play C) prior to the deadline. Scheif, Lowry, Namestnikov, Gus as your centre depth going into the playoffs, I don’t see a single cup winner in recent history that’s worse or even equal to that.
There is a reason we’re in first place in the West, absolutely: amazing goaltending and an amazing PP. 5v5 there is still plenty of room for improvement.
Philips is already on the Moose as he was in the AHL when traded. Name’s hasn’t been put on IR. The only player who has to go back is Toninato when Apples returns. Miller also hasn’t been put on IR so they can go with 8 D when Fleury returns.
Who was Florida’s 2c last year? Evans? Are you telling me Evans or Reinhardt is better than Lowry? Maybe at goal scoring, but, Lowry is like Bergeron defensively.
Is Kadri better than Lowry?
I think Kupari is stronger than Gus.
Also we have a lot more stars at winger with kc, Villardi, ehlers than Florida. We have more stars at wing than Edm. They have mcdrai, but, we have Helly.
5 v 5 we do have the top offensive line.
Only cup team who had better goalie than regular season Helly is 2021 vasi which is an argument.

Tkachuk, Reinhart, Verhaeghe is certainly not a lot fewer stars than we have.
We do have more wingers than EDM imo, to be fair.

Schief vs Barkov Schief is top 2 in goals. Barkov is good defensively.

Specifics aside, I agree with your general point that we aren’t far away from being comparable to cup winners as is. I think on balance the comparisons won’t often come our way, but a) they are cup winners what do you expect lol, and b) the fact that we are in the ballpark is a great sign.
It’s gonna be some tough choices for Chevy what is worth giving up and getting this trade deadline, I do not envy him.

True that Lowry doesn't fit the template for a 2C due to lack of offense. But does that matter if he can centre a line that is effective as a second line? He is on pace for 45 pts this year. That is low end 2C range. That may rise with the line he is on now with Ehlers and AI (or Apples when he gets back). Meanwhile Nino and Perfetti look good together, even with Kupari at C.
Big IF perhaps, but if Lowry can function as an effective 2C I don't see any reason why we can't go forward with that. 3C might then be a problem, but that is much easier to fix than 2C. If Kupari can start to score playing more minutes with higher skilled players he could be that. I think the jury is still out on him. Though not for too much longer.
I think you can find a 3C to upgrade on Namestnikov or Kupari to help drive additional offense on the third line. However, maybe go with an additional top 6 winger if the plan is Lowry at 2c.
I don't think beyond ehlers there's a winger on the roster I'd be content with as a top 6er. I'd give Lowry a chance with 2 productive offensive players.

It's only been a couple of games but so far the Lowry/Ehlers/Iafallo line (14 SOG plus crossbar yesterday) looks like it has some chemistry but the main reason for Florida's success besides goaltending was their tough defence. Jets need to pick one up for the final piece ... probably a 3rd pick should do it.
I was watching the Panthers/Avs game last week and Avs announces said after the Avs finally scored on Bob on a screen ... that you have to take away the eyes of the great goalie to score. "Even the best goalie (Hellebuyck) in the world can't stop the puck if he can't see it and thats how the Avs beat the Jets in the playoffs."
I know a lot of people blame Helle but imo most of those goals were bad defensive play no goalie would have done better with weak defensemen play.
Vegas won the previous year too with the big tough D thats how you win in the playoffs.
