Someday Ehlers will be a 100 point player when the team does the right thing and gets McDavid and Mackinnon to be his linemates
I could put up 75-80 points being on a line with McDavid and MacKinnon. I wouldn't hog the puck or even want the puck....just use my big body in front of the net to create chaos and those two demi-gods can just bounce the puck off my various body parts (ala Ray Neufeld) and into the net for moar goalz.

And I think they’d rather play with you. They want to play with Buntings, Hymans not Ehlers.

Here is one of his numbers...
9.5m AAV for 5 seasons after this one.
No thanks.

Pay the price for Weegar.
What about at $6.5M? I don't understand how good or not so good his metrics are.

Sure I'd take Weegar but he is 31, RHD, 6' 0", 201 lbs and 6 years left at $6.25M. I'd also consider Mike Matheson a LHD at $4.875M at 6' 2" and 187lbs with another year left on his contract.

So would I put up 75 points, even at 67 years of age if I played with those two.

I believe that if Jonathan Toews is healthy, once again, he'd be a great addition. He could fill in anywhere and add value to the Jets. Let Adam Lowry work for a while with Ehlers as the 2nd line centre. I believe it would be magical what he offers for what he's going to cost us in cap space. We need to sign him soon to get accustom to team and get in good game shape and ready for the playoffs.

Wasn't Toews dealing with some major long covid complications? I'm not even sure he is capable of playing in the NHL, nevermind being someone's 2c.

Can anyone explain why the Isles are trading Barzal, who signed for 8 years there? I think Nelson and Palmeiri are getting dealt? Is Lou finally taking the whole thing down? With Roy behind the bench? To sign Ehlers in the offseason? They don't have many prospects in the pipeline.

There is rumblings they want to move on from his contract. He would become the highest paid Jet but it would give us a great 1/2 punch for a long time.

As much as I like to go for it my guess is we would be on that 22 team no trade clause. My guess is he ends up in Vancouver if they move on from him.

I would pay the price for Barzal. Gives us a 1/2 punch for 2 years down the middle. Is a good playoff performer. Right hand Center. Fast and dynamic.

I would look at something around Perfetti + 1st + Good prospect for him
I tend to agree. It adds a dynamic player for this season and insulates for a loss of Ehlers, if necessary.

I think it would take at least what you've suggested (Perfetti, 1st, good prospect).

A main problem would be his robust NTC (can exclude 22 teams). Jets always have to find a way to persuade top players to waive, and he might be reluctant this early in his career / contract.

If Ehlers walks and you trade Perfetti, your top 6 is getting pretty thin

The Athletic has some contract projections up today for all our UFA/RFAs.

Samberg is 4 x $4.1m
Pionk is 5 x $7.8m
Ehlers is 5 x $8.4m
Vilardi is 4 x $7.1m

Term is generally too short, but the AAV isn't bad for 3 of 4 of them. Hard pass on Pionk for me.

Samberg I'd be comfortable locking up for 5 years+. 4-5m I think is fair.

Pionk pass at that price, don't have a good read on what he should get given a big year in offense after a few 30 pt seasons and not so good defensive play.

Vilardi and Ehlers id lock up 5-6 years 7-8m. Think I pass on ehlers at that price although not enormously far off the upper range limit.

Wow. Pretty sure top players in the league would salivate at having Ehlers with them.
Even more sure they'd want him over Bunting, who has bounced around and put up far less points than Ehlers.
The AThletic projects Ehlers to make over 8 million a season on his next contract. Shows how valuable this guy will be for whoever is lucky enough to get him, hopefully the Jets.

Like the idea of adding Strome from the Ducks. Saw someone mention it a couple of days ago. IIRC, he doesn't have trade protection. Has some term and a reasonable price tag. Dumoulin might be interesting too, not sure how much he'd cost.

Why do you say that about Ehlers? His style of game is difficult to build chemistry with

Pretty sure ehlers wants puck. There is only one puck so I’d rather Mack have it while on ice. Ehlers gets points by being the distributor and having it on his stick. If he is playing with those 2 who are better play makers and drivers than shooters.
It’s all bout style and having a mix of skills on ice.
Unlike kc who can play without puck and just finish plays. Or Villardi who mucks puck out (not ehlers strength) tap in rebounds ( not ehlers strength).
Enter zone, ehlers strength mcd wants puck on his stick till end of play.
Drai adapts and acts like a finisher so compliments. Rant is a power forward goes to net.

Amount they are getting paid is oversimplifying line dynamics.

Nick's on his way to his 8th 20 plus goal season.
I'd say he doesn't just get points by being the distributor.
Put him with more talented playmakers and guaranteed he'd easily be well over 30 per season.

All this about line dynamics and the Scheifele line still scores more and gives up less with Ehlers on it. Whether it's replacing Vilardi or Connor, it hasn't mattered.

Now that top line has turned it around so no one needs to discuss it any more. But if we are talking about player styles being underrated compared to talent level? That isn't what's actually been happening on our team with Ehlers.

Chemistry is a real thing, but it should also show up on the scoresheet. Maybe Ehlers chemistry isn't so bad. If he was so tough to play with he wouldn't make every line he plays on better.

Surprise surprise he looks decent with Lowry as well...

And with Lowry he still plays same game and is able to play his game.
Perfetti also looks better away from Ehlers tonight.

Small sample size of kc Schief and ehlers and they did nothing this year. A bigger sample size of kc’s play doesn’t take his improved d play also that he produces more in po.

But Villardi is the type of player Mack or mcd would want to play with because he goes to net and digs in corners. Kc is the finisher. Schief didn’t like being the digger and Mack and mcd would hate it even more.

If it's Perfetti+1st + Namestnikov (for cap reasons) and you manage to keep Ehlers imagine a line of
Lambert-Barzal-Ehlers
Following up C-S-V and Nino-Lowry-Iafallo
