Don’t see it happening. 2 years off since he last played won’t do him any favours at his age.
Theyre signing him to immediately get some cap IR space...Don’t see it happening. 2 years off since he last played won’t do him any favours at his age.
They wouldn’t need to retain much, maybe $1M. With cap going up and Wheeler, then Schmidt’s, buyout coming off the books you can make it work. Unless Ehlers wants to make more than Scheifele.Agreed. I don’t think it is feasible otherwise unless Rangers retained.
Well he has 16 ES points, which is more than Perfetti or Namestnikov, 59.5% on the draw, so you can use him in all situations.Just not sure what pageau brings that gus or names or kupari dont
Another advantage would be that we would not have to give up any assets...Be a great story. Hometown boy. He'd fit right in at 2C. Gobs of playoff experience and a multiple Stanley Cup winner. I would for sure be interested if his ask is reasonable.
It happens to every team, especially in the 2nd half of the 1st roundHave the Jets just become really bad at drafting in 1st rd?

If they really wanted to solve their 2c issues

Think the first 5 years skewed peoples expectations. They routinely picked top 10-15 since they were missing the PO's so got good quality prospects. Take their selections from pick #16th or higher into accountHave the Jets just become really bad at drafting in 1st rd?

The ask would be Perfetti + +I'd love to have Pettersson, but the ask is likely high. At a guess, at least one or more roster players might need to be included. Who do we have that would even move the needle and would be willing to give up?
It would be great if he is close to the player he was at one time, but 2 years away from the game and at age 36, that is one hell of a tough climb.Be a great story. Hometown boy. You are definitely not alone on targeting Olivier...I'm alone on this one, but I'd love a player like Mathieu Olivier on the 3rd line. Can skate a bit, can pk a bit, hits like a mad-man.
I've been playing around how this might work as well, by why do you say it is too late for an Ehlers sign and trade? At the very least Ehlers agreeing to sign with the Canucks would have to be part of the deal.Interesting to think about Petterson that's for sure.
The way the Jets structure their lines you pretty much need your 2C to be a true top line guy. If you want to measure up to most cup winners from the last decade or so.
It doesn't feel like a Jets type move to go out and acquire an $11M player. Especially if they aren't 100% sure the chemistry is a fit.
If it was Ehlers going back the other way that's the only way I can see it happening. But too late for a sign and trade now.
Would basically need to be Ehlers for #1 salary #2 a top line calibre guy back. And then make up the value for Ehlers being UFA and a lesser player.
Basically the way Tkachuk (Petterson) was dealt for first line UFA Huberdeau (Ehlers) and UFA Weegar and a 1st.
9.5 mil in, 9.15 mil out in that Tkachuk deal for Florida.
So basically our equivalent of Weegar is or DeMelo
11.6 mil in, 11.9 mil out.
And a 1st. Eek. Steep.
That said...you can find cheap top 6 wingers to play with stars. Hard to find elite C outside the top 3 of the draft without amazing luck and development
