Yeah Provorov is solid but he doesn't feel like the type this team needs currently. He isn't the guy you bring in to anchor a 3rd pair in a PK/pure defensive role.

Should have just paid Dillon when we paid Nino, he is perfect for what we need in that spot
I'm not sure that is what he was talking about.

He would be excellent in the 2 LHD spot until Sammy got back. Also, he has played in MB for 2 seasons with the Wheat Kings.

You are correct. Meant to respond to your post.

Despite Samberg being injured and Provorov playing in Brandon, I don't see him as the shut down type of dman we seem to prefer for that slot. And need more if on the team.

Provorov may not be a “pure shutdown “ defenseman, but his defending is still a hell of a lot better than Stanley’s and he better at everything else.

But he is way beyond a simple upgrade on Stanley. But Provorov would be a pure rental.
Yeah, apparently the simple upgrades we already have can’t solidify that spot over Stanley so the upgrade has to go beyond plain simple. Get a marginally better player and you run the risk that he gets the Miller treatment of last season and is stapled to the press box.

Or the Fleury/Heinola treatment so far this year.

Funny how Fleury wasn't good enough to play 3LD once Stan was back but he is the one to play 2LD when Snerg went down.

Garrett has written some stuff about Stanley:

The way the team has played the last 12 games, Chevy might need to be active early to try and salvage what looked like an epic season early on.

As long as Chevy doesn't trade a prospect or a 1st.

I don't think any trade is worth it right now, so might as well hold onto your more valuable assets.

To be fair Fleury is clearly not good enough for 2nd pairing

Sure, but that's not the point. He was judged more suitable for elevation than Stanley and yet Stanley plays ahead of him when we are healthy.

Its like Stanley is cemented at 3LD. The other LD have to compete for the 2 remaining spots regardless of how good or how bad they may be. Its 1st or 2nd pair or the PB. 3rd pair left side is simply unavailable.

If, by some miracle Jets acquired a LHD better than JMo then JMo would play 2nd pair and Samberg would sit. Stan would still play. :banghead:

OK, maybe that's a little extreme, but it is how it feels.

I see it as the exact opposite.
If the free fall continues Ehlers becomes a trade chip?

I don't think Dillon would have signed to be a 3rd pairing d-men, and the Jets wanted Samberg in that top 4 spot. Probably with reason. Given that Samberg's next contract probably starts in the 5s with multiple 0s, that would be a lot of money to invest long term into the LD position after just getting out of all the money that was going to be invested on the right side of the defense. This year wouldn't have been the issue so much, though the Cap space might have knocked somebody out who is here.
