Have to agree with this post, and I've always thought Ehlers was one of the most mismanaged players for years on the this Jets team. Look at the difference in his production now that he has #1 powerplay time -- he is trending toward a 80 -90 point season. He's also in the top 30 in scoring in the entire NHL. You don't lose a guy like that for nothing - you sign him. I can also think of another 2 mismanged players on other teams that were traded, and they are Reinhart ( Buffalo) and Bennett ( Calgary) They are both top scorers in the NHL now with Florida. Both very mismanaged players.Still funny to see the lack of.respect for Ehlers here.. hes finally mobed to pp1 and we suddenly rank #1 in the league but he still gets minimal credit from the usual suspects on here.
Yup its a different system but without ehlers movement our pp would naturally gravitate back to 'blake wheeler overpassing' like it always has...
Guy is on pace for 90 points and we want t trade him - ridiculous
Will Ehlers sign here ?? answer is likely "yes" but I think he'll want to know, if his ice usage will stay at least the same and or go up. He'll also want to know, or be "guaranteed" # 1 powerplay time - and they should give it to him, and "guarantee" him that. He's earned it. I don't think he'll want to put up with the BS he's had in the past.
I think Ehlers likes it here, gets along great with his teammates, and is the perfect guy you'd want to resign. If Ehlers was unhappy with his ice time and usage in the past - I don't blame him, because you can clearly see he's an elite skater, and stickhandler, who has an accurate hard shot. Can also lead a rush - he can do it all.
I think the Jets are going to have to make some commitments to Ehlers, regarding his usage ( ice time) etc, and they should, and if they do, I think Ehlers signs here for around what Helle and Mark got. Ehlers is from a small town, and seems to like it here in Winnipeg, so they must sign him. I think he signs in around $ 8 mil per season, although he could likely get $ 8.5 to 9 as a UFA. Ehlers reminds me of a guy who's not greedy, and places a lot of value on whether he likes his teammates, and the direction the hockey club is going.
