Still funny to see the lack of.respect for Ehlers here.. hes finally mobed to pp1 and we suddenly rank #1 in the league but he still gets minimal credit from the usual suspects on here.

Yup its a different system but without ehlers movement our pp would naturally gravitate back to 'blake wheeler overpassing' like it always has...

Guy is on pace for 90 points and we want t trade him - ridiculous
Have to agree with this post, and I've always thought Ehlers was one of the most mismanaged players for years on the this Jets team. Look at the difference in his production now that he has #1 powerplay time -- he is trending toward a 80 -90 point season. He's also in the top 30 in scoring in the entire NHL. You don't lose a guy like that for nothing - you sign him. I can also think of another 2 mismanged players on other teams that were traded, and they are Reinhart ( Buffalo) and Bennett ( Calgary) They are both top scorers in the NHL now with Florida. Both very mismanaged players.

Will Ehlers sign here ?? answer is likely "yes" but I think he'll want to know, if his ice usage will stay at least the same and or go up. He'll also want to know, or be "guaranteed" # 1 powerplay time - and they should give it to him, and "guarantee" him that. He's earned it. I don't think he'll want to put up with the BS he's had in the past.

I think Ehlers likes it here, gets along great with his teammates, and is the perfect guy you'd want to resign. If Ehlers was unhappy with his ice time and usage in the past - I don't blame him, because you can clearly see he's an elite skater, and stickhandler, who has an accurate hard shot. Can also lead a rush - he can do it all.

I think the Jets are going to have to make some commitments to Ehlers, regarding his usage ( ice time) etc, and they should, and if they do, I think Ehlers signs here for around what Helle and Mark got. Ehlers is from a small town, and seems to like it here in Winnipeg, so they must sign him. I think he signs in around $ 8 mil per season, although he could likely get $ 8.5 to 9 as a UFA. Ehlers reminds me of a guy who's not greedy, and places a lot of value on whether he likes his teammates, and the direction the hockey club is going.

Which is saying something. We have had a rough run at 2C. I hope one of our young guns takes the reins eventually.
60 points for $4/5m and Connor had his best years with him. That’s a fantastic 2C. I doubt we have an in house solution that good.

I think the Jets are giving him plenty of usage this season. He has consistent PP1 time and gets as many EV shifts as the top-line wingers.

He's not going to supplant Connor as the #1LW, but then I'm not sure he would be a #1 winger on many of the other contending teams.

I do think that the main considerations for re-signing with the Jets will relate to his contract term and AAV. But I recall reading somewhere that the Jets aren't discussing contracts with pending UFAs during the season (at least not yet). Something about it becoming a distraction when they re-signed some pending UFAs, and not others.

No thanks to Brayden Schenn. The Jets need more pace in that 2/3C slot. Schenn is slowing and aging, and has too much of cap hit.
I was thinking if you are looking for a player to insulate Yager with to start his career, Schenn is a Sasktaoon native, and he's probably tougher than most of this team when push comes to shove, which is often playoff hockey.

I like Morgan Geekie as an under the radar addition. I thought he was good for the Bruins last year in the playoffs.

Scheifele-Stastny-Little-Lowry was pretty solid. Even Still-Played-Defense-Scheifele+Little was a good 1-2, but then Ehlers shot Little in the head.

I want to see Nik Ehlers bring it when the games get tough. I'm still not seeing it.

Connor had his best years with him? That doesn't sound right.

I think Connor's best years have been the last 2

I do think that Ehlers is playing with a bit more of a physical dimension than he has in the past. Not sure how that might translate into playoffs, but he's been better at puck control and battles than in the past. I think Namestnikov is hard-working and has some strengths, but I think he holds that line back at times with his lack of higher-end skill and hockey sense offensively.

Most know that Nik is my favorite Jet has been since he arrived, that being said this team is possibly the only team that can't let a talent like Nik leave for nothing. As I have said earlier Chevy knows if he will re sign or wont and if he insists on walking to free agency and his representation has told Chevy this then for the better of the team Chevy should move him sooner rather than later. Paying public will melt down being bounced early from the playoffs and Nik leaving with no return. Right or wrong that's my 2 cents

Why is Columbus trading jiricek? Wonder if there was any discussion with mcgroaty before we traded him.

If Columbus was serious about trading Jiricek in this summer than Jiricek for McGroarty would have been a trade that would have made both fanbases happy back then.

I don't think he was available then as that relationship seems to have fallen off a cliff after his latest demotion to the AHL.

BTW is Allan Walsh Jiricek's agent?

Personally I would love to acquire him if he is willing to play in the AHL for this season. Guys who dominate the AHL at 18 and 19 year old as D-men don't come around very often. Jets would have to let Columbus take their pick of Yager, Salomonsson and Lambert and then add on top of it so the price would be step, but RHD with size who have dominated against men at a young age don't come around very often.

Geekie could be interesting. Maybe Schenn has rejuvenated run in him, but I worry that he’s alien down too much now.

Trent Frederic would be a solid addition.

If that’s the cost then I’m out. Chevy is a negotiation grinder. I feel if he really wanted Jiricek, he could land him for much cheaper. Sounds like Jiricek could be a bit problematic which could hurt his value.

I'm trying to remember when Chevy lost a player especially a very good one that we drafted, for absolutely nothing. It hasn't happened and i really don't it will with Ehlers . Chevy will know if Ehlers doesn't want to sign and make a trade but i for 1 think Ehlers is going to re-sign .

You don't see Yager as a future 2C? Maybe as early as next season?

Ehlers isn't a trade chip at this point. If the team was failing he would be, but everyone is contributing. Ehlers is having a career year. Ride with it because tomorrow isn't promised. If Ehlers puts up another goose egg in the playoffs it's a lot easier to walk away or move forward. So that's the one to watch.

He's part of of a UFA class that includes Rantanen and Marner and you could bet teams will be paying big dollars on July 1st with the Cap going up if these guys hit UFA. That's where you want to avoid overpayment. Everyone who re-signed with the Jets since Wheeler's loyalty contract has left something on the table for Chevy to work with.

I think the Jets are only going to keep one of KC and Ehlers long term for the 30+ years. Because they will want to invest in more than top 6 wingers to stay competitive.

I know people love this guy, but he's playing on the 3rd line technically as Lowry often matches up against the best and teams try to get their best players/d-men out against Scheif's line.

So that's a fairly soft role to move into, neither the primary offensive or defensive driver, generate secondary offense and contribute on the PP.
We know org prefer kc so if it’s 1.
