Guessing he'll start a game or two.
So Vanacek is within two weeks away of returning? That pushes up against the upcoming two-week break.
My guess is Askarov returns to the Barracuda while the NHL is on a break. The Sharks play on 4, 6, and 8 Feb, then not again until 23 Feb. The Barracuda play on 7-8, 11-12, 15-16, 19, and 22-23 Feb - that's six games during the Sharks' break, plus three others on the edge.
For Vanacek, the Barracuda don't play until Friday and Saturday, then not again until the 7th. Vanacek must be added to the NHL active roster by the 11th. He is technically on the 23-man roster now and counts against the cap, which is why Sabourin had to go down.
The trade deadline is on 7 March, and Askarov will be on the Barracuda on that day (playoff eligibility; someone correct me if I'm wrong, but he has to be in the AHL at the actual deadline time). This isn't injury-related, but is relevant to the Georgiev-Vanacek-Askarov rotation we will be having.
