GDT: 2024-25 season game 53 LA Kings vs Anaheim Ducks @7:30pm 2/8/25

At least the Kings got the point and Kempe got his 25 of the season...catch some of you in 14 days time

No Clarke in OT
I don't get the Kings unwillingness to use young skilled players in OT
Clarke's Offense has dried up lately and he seems hesitant in the Ozone, dishing off instead of just blasting the puck ala Doughty

That twerp zegras made a nice move, my hats off to him and the Ducks. That team is growing.

I think the Kings need this 2 week break as much as any team in the league. It should be interesting to see how they come out after the break. The defense and the home record are arguments for optimism.

I dont think Hiller is allowed to move 8 or 11 off PP1.. at least 1 if not both would improve it.. both of those guys have good zone entry skills but are so conservative in the zone as to make it impossible for the puck to move fast enough to get some open lanes for the shooter.

Have been debating with a friend when the Ducks would blow by the Kings - will it be next season or one after... prob 2.

Bad Hiller! Bad!

Kings definitely should've won that game. Got goalie'd by Dostal unfortunately. Ducks played a solid game - credit where credit is due.

That said, this game was a perfect example of why I despise 11/7. I know Hiller has these guys playing well and whatever but 11/7 just feels so panicked - especially when you're rotating forwards onto the 1st line with Kopi and Kempe. I know "the forwards like it because they get more ice time" but it HAS to be hard to establish consistency/chemistry when the lines are in a constant blender the entire game.

The constant line shuffling also caused some disruptions for the 22-55-14 line - which had been absolutely buzzing leading up to this game (they were solid tonight too but just saying).

Burroughs was the 7th defenseman and he legit played 2:25 tonight (Didn't see a shift in the 3rd period). What the hell is the point of that???

Just ice 12 forwards and 6 d-men and let the forward lines establish chemistry together ffs.

Also - Hiller tried like 6 different forwards with Kopi and Kempe tonight - if that's not a glaring indication this team needs to make a trade then idk what is.

Easy explanation: Kings coaching/management views giving OT ice time to a player like Clarke as 'too risky' - they'd rather have Danault and Moore out there skating laps and passing around retaining possession because you get get scored on when you do that. Well, guess what? You also can't win the game when you do that @coachjimhiller @BLUC

On another note, has anyone else noticed Clarke has been looking very frustrated out there? I definitely don't blame him - and maybe it's just a matter of him not being happy with his game / his offensive production drying up, but it feels a little concerning

Doughty 31:09

Is this team worse with Doughty on it? Theres a lot of sample size without him now.
He is a good player but playing him half the game is laughable at this point. No coach will change his minutes. They have been worse off as a team since Sutter started doing it towards the end of his tenure and people on here were even calling it out back then.
Then they went further in the playoffs without him a couple years ago. And when he got closer to playing this year they started messing with the defense pairs and the losing streak started.

For what it's worth, LA is 0 for 10 on the power play since Doughty has come back in the lineup. We're at an incredible -14.3% net power play percentage. That is to stay that over the past six games, we've allowed more shorthanded goals (1) than we've scored power play goals (0).

Could tell early on that they didn't quite have the same jump as they did the previous games. 2nd game of a back to back, 3rd game in 4 nights, not too suprosed at the result, but it still sucks to lose to that team. Once it got to a shootout I knew we were done. Hard to stop Zegras, Carlsson and Terry in a row.
